Ludwig Gold Trapezoid Badge

Loading...

I have an old 14 X 6 Ludwig Snare with a trapezoid badge like the blue olive badge, except instead of the colors being blue and olive, it's only gold. I've done a lot of research online and can't seem to find anything about this drum. The serial number begins with 831 which leads me to believe this drum may be from '69, but that's if it had a B/O badge. The rocker series has a black and white trapezoid badge, so I know it's not one of those... Does anyone know what this is all about?

The vent hole and grommet look a bit large compared to what I would expect to see on a B/O badge drum from that serial number range. It is also placed a little low - actually centered - but badge placement has been shown to have varied a bit.

Can you provide some additional info?

1. Does the wrap appear original?

2. The lugs appear nickel - is that true or is it the lighting?

3. What is the interior like?

Rick

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

That WMP looks like a newer wrap to me. Also, I agree about the grommet hole size and the badge placement.

The wrap does appear to be original. I got it from a friend who had the whole kit in this wrap... Doesn't mean it's original, but it doesn't look tampered with. I posted a picture of the inside of the drum so you can check it out. I think the lugs are nickel. They have a golden tinge to them.

that wrap just doesnt look right to me. i'm uncertain about the badge. the grommet does look too large. the interior looks like an older drum. if this is a 6.5 6 lug, it looks like it could be a deep pioneer or an old wfl supreme concert model that has been recovered and maybe a different badge and grommet installed to match a kit. you should be able to see if the wrap is actually tucked into the shell. if its not, its probably a rewrap. the nickel lugs with those early screwdriver slot bolts would also be indicative of an earlier drum, pre 60 or so..
