A late 70s Ludwig Blue Vistalite tom drum

15" diameter and 12" depth

pointy B/O badge - # 154XXXX

double headed

it has 16 smaller classic lugs

it's supposed to have a muffle but it's missing

So I think it's from a Smoke and Fire set from the size. The # leads it to be 1978 or 1979.

But what's throwing me is the 16 SMALL lugs . . I had a blue kit from the same time and it had the large lugs.

Anyone heard of this combo?

Thanks.

Pretty much all Classic series and Vistalite toms larger than 12" came with the larger lugs. There are years where even the 12" toms had the large lugs.

In the case of your tom, it's possible it was a custom order. Is there a tom holder on the shell? I do know that marching snares and tenor drums came with small lugs. However, I'm not sure if marching drums were offered in Vistalite, which would make sense considering the amount of abuse they would take!

I think the bottom line is that, NORMALLY, you'd see large lugs on your tom... BUT... anything's possible!

Sounds like a vistalite concert Tom that someone added the bottom rim and lugs to.

Just an update - I got to see the drum this past weekend.

It's a double headed marching tenor tom. It has the leg brace.

I have 3 kits from 78-79, B/O badge, all 3 are the power tom sizes. One kit has small lugs on the 8-15, the other has large lugs 10 - 20.

As mentioned, when it comes to Ludwig, anything is possible...
