Got A Line on 60's OBP Ludwig Set, Value? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello fellow forum members, I am looking into a 60’s Ludwig Oyster Blue Pearl set. I have been in contact with the seller only through email so far to gather details on this set that’s for sale and I only have four pictures. I’m trying to get an idea of value before pursing any further and going to the trouble of arranging a viewing. Here’s what I know so far…Oyster Blue Pearl, serial numbers point to 1967 (not sure about date stamps yet), original wrap and in pretty decent condition, Rogers cymbal mount installed, sizes: 13”, 16”, 20”, bass drum has a diamond plate mount but no extra holes, hoop inlays are intact/complete. Obviously this was not a “catalogued configuration”, maybe pieced together or special ordered. What would be a good price given the information I provided? Seller wants $900.

Thank you!

I had almost the same exact set once. I think I sold it for around $800.00. Mine had Rogers mounts on it as well. I think having those extra mounts can kind of wreck the value a bit and if it was me I would'nt go more than the $800.00. I think I paid $650.00 for this one and was hoping to do better with it but in the end feel lucky that I got the $800.00.

Unfortunately when people drill out vintage drums with other ot wrong mounts it really hurts the value. I also find that the 20,13,16 can be a hard sell. On the other hand, the color is super cool and they will sound great. I would use my best judgement. There are a lot of great sets out there at decent prices. If this were oyster black then I would expect it to fetch more... Good luck!

Badge 534xxx (if I see correctly) points the drum to late 67' period.

Kit was set for lefty drummer. Now question: was the swive o matic first or Ludwig tom holder hole drilled? I think that you can have super classic tom orphans and

Moonlighter bass drum, first drilled for lefty "ringo set" drummer, then adapted to be more versatile kit.

It hurts the drum in both cases, hurts also the price. 900$ is too much for modified kit, even if its not so frequent OBP.

Thanks for the advice and info guys! I had no idea what I was getting into, good thing I asked instead of wasting more time and/or money on an iffy set. That oyster blue sure is tempting though!

I agree with with Kurt on this one. Many set's were sold with this size config....but not very desirable. If the toms were 12 and 14 then the game changes. I don't know snurf, it looks like a standard righty kit with an added cymbal holder to me? In any event, not worth $900.

If it would have been the Downbeat config (12, 14, 20) I would not have hesitated! Too bad it isn't:(
