Bill, check out this photo I took of Robbie. MComb Il. Western University 1980 ish. Kansas was my favorite band. Saw them last summer, great show. Phil E is one heck of a drummer, fast!So they are getting back for one show in Pittsburg?

Yes, a full Kansas band reunited for one show only August 17, 2013 in Pittsburgh at the Benedum Center. First half of show is songs w/the Pittsburgh Symphony. 2nd half they "rock out" (their words not mine...look out!!) without the symthony. Steve Walsh is 60 now, yes 60!! I met him outside a show 2 years ago. Still looks great. The killer voice is about only half of what it was in their hey day but he stills tries for the high notes. Give him credit. So it's be Livgren, Walsh, Ehart, Steinhardt, Hope, Williams (original guys), plus long time bassist Billy Greer and violinist Dave Ragsdale. This band is still very talented and Phil on drums gets better every year. Plays a double bass Yamaha Beech Custom. First concert I ever saw back in 1979. Plays Anyone coming in for the show let me know. I'll give you a tour of the city. Pierogies for everyone :)

Phil was using a yellow Yamaha kit when my gig was on the bill with Kansas, Peter Frampton, BTO, and Stepenwolf(sp?) at Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis back in '91, I think.

Jamie Oldaker, Frampton's drummer on that tour and a wonderful, genuinely nice dude, got the drum award that day. Beside, rippin' it up and leavin' us all in his dust, he had a smokin' hot tobacco sunburst set of Yamaha Recording Customs that just sounded godlike. Lemme tell ya, that guy can do stuff that you do NOT hear on his records with Clapton, et al.

Sadly for me, I'd just signed with Slingerland (that's not the sad part) and my kit wasn't finished yet but they brought a kit out to St. Louis for me to use at that gig. It was a one-off in BIRDSEYE MAPLE!!! I got done, they packed it up, and back to the factory. [sigh] Drop-dead gorgeous set of drums.

Pretty sure saw that concert. GF wanted to see Frampton. The rest of the lineup was great so made the drive from Salina, KS to Saint Lou.

Went to a bunch of shows back then so don't recall much else.

Cool thread!

Thanks,

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

I know not of surface but there is a bunch of kids that have an old church and are recording the old blues guys in Salina. Name escapes me at the moment.

Go through at the posted speed limit. KS Cops are very fond of writing tickets at +4 above posted limit. Holler next time making the trip. Ton's of kin out that way still.

McPherson is where I was referring to.

Usually we come up from Wichita on I-135 and go right through to I-70 to head west to Hays. So I guess I'm not really going through town, but around it.

The best keyboard guy I ever played with spent his summers back in the early-to-mid 70s in Salina... for the D&BC Silver Sabers? Does that sound right? Marching Band stuff is in my blood, too...
