Looks more like the black oyster wrap, that precision drum , and others use and sell nowadays as the 60's black oyster for rewaps... but is not the original black oyster that Ludwig used in the 60's

This must be new. It doesn't look like either the vintage (Ringo) BOP or the later, bowling ball BOP.

I know this is nothing that precision sells now, I have used most of their stuff along the way, and none quite compare. I did some looking of my own, and I found this Ludwig tom on e-bay. It looks to be the same , and still has the factory rivets holding the seem. This seller has it described as blue oyster pearl. So my question now would be, did ludwig make two blue oysters? I seem to mostly see the Really blue looking one.

My guess would be that it is a Ludwig wrap, but from a dye lot or run that was slightly off from the norm. I have seen this in other oyster pearl wraps. Just a thought.

Blue is a funny color in terms of the way it ages on certain wraps. Sky Blue pearl is a good example. You can find older kits from the 50's and 60's that either faded to a grey, or you'll find others made at the same time, with the same finish, that faded to a green cast in the color of the wrap. The drum with the factory rivets is likely from the 80's and looks to have faded favoring the grey. Your wrap as well looks to have that age fade to grey. That's all it could be, just the way that particular wrap aged/faded. That's why it's always so hard to match drums with blue anything on them. They fade so differently, it's almost impossible to match orphans from the same manufacturer, with the same finish, sometimes.

Thanks for the info everyone. If I have enough I was planning to build a 5x13 Ludwig 6 ply snare with a b/o badge. I have a tom shell I was going to use. Faded to grey covering should be just fine for that.....
