Hello VDF,

I have a chance to buy a 70's Butcher block SuperClassic. Beautiful condition but the floor tom is throwing me off. It has a dark mahogany interior that is visible on the bearing edge indicating that is factory. It matches the tom and bass drum (they have clear maple interiors)and is completely unaltered and came with the kit. The serial numbers are only a few digits apart putting it in 1975-76. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before. I can get the kit for a good deal but does the floor tom hurt the value?

Is there date stamps on any drum? Maybe a transition 69-70? Or is there signs of a badge switch?

No stamps just the B/O badge starting around 15xxxxxx so around 75/76 or later.

Wow that's great to know. Was there any reasoning behind this? Like say a special order or just another odd Ludwig quirk? Does this devalue the kit at all?

This was normal for Ludwig, not special ordered, no it doesn't devalue the kit at all.
