Ludwig 1968 Jazzette silversparkle kit Last viewed: 1 hour ago

That's a great little set! It does not follow the typical hardware placements as a standard catalog jazzette would but I have seen another with the mounts and placement of the rail like yours. Basically all your components are the same as a downbeat set and placed in the same spots. I have a 1972 jazzette in silver sparkle and it has the usual factory spurs and rail mounted at the top. I would clean those up as best as I could, add a correct silver sparkle hoop to replace the mis-matched one and play the heck out of them. They are definately cool and very collectable. It's too bad about the extra holes but it should still be worth a decent amount. Besides you picked them up for a steal!

Here is mine....

That is a cool little kit. As mentioned in the thread regarding heads for this kit, I would lose the pinstripes and put single ply coated heads on there. Tune them into the mid or upper range of the toms if you are looking for the sound for which these drums were intended.

Clean the shells with Novus polish and you will be amazed at how they look.

As to the hoop, post a wanted ad here, scour eBay or, if necessary order a custom hoop from Precision, Drummaker, etc. and create one for yourself.

The extra holes do impact the resale value somewhat, but considering you bought them for $100 you are in great shape!

Hi tnsquint thanks for all the info!!

I looked up the Novus polish and there are different products to choose from. Have you used just their 'clean and shine' or their scratch removers too? Which are you recomending??? thanks so much.

I use all three when necessary. I only use #3 if I have some serious scratches to address. Some guys only use #2 for everything and some guys only use #1. As mentioned, I only use #3 to buff out deep scratches. It is almost like a rubbing compound. I use #2 for deep cleaning and finish with #1 for a polish. If the kit is in good shape and just needs some cleaning I only use #1. If I felt that I had to use #3 then I always follow with 2 and then 1. Confused? Me too.

no that is extremely clear thanks for taking the time. I see that amazon has the set of 3 8oz bottles for $17. How far does this stuff go... would that be enough 5 drums?

That should be more than enough. I've found that a little bit goes a long way. Good luck and can't wait to see the pics when you're done.

Ok cool, it may take me awhile to act on this ... as i have had them for maybe 20 years without needing them to be shiny. but after seeing photos here I think it would be nice to polish them up. Can any problems develop with this polish ie; can i screw them up worse then they are now?

Does this polish also take out yellowing in white marine pearl?

Start with the Novus 2 and see what you think. With normal application, you can't really mess it up. As far as yellowing, that's another kettle of fish. This won't do too much to change that. There are other theories on yellowing WMP which you can search on this forum.
