the whole i believe is more like 5/8" and only 2 holes on side but perhaps it used the 2 holes for the current bracket too? I never took it apart to see what it looks like under the bracket... maybe tomorrow i will.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. The three drums are certainly close enough to have been shipped from the factory to fill one order for a kit. The snare is probably an earlier one which has been added later. But a Supraphonic is the catalog correct snare for the Jazzette kit. Maybe somebody sold the rest of the kit and kept the Supra, and later on a different person brought a different Supra together with the kit. About those holes...sounds like it might have been drilled for a Pearl (or similar) mount, but that's hard to say for sure without knowing the diameter of the hole. The Pearl pipe is 7/8" diameter, but the Pearl mount uses 3 screws as far as I can see (I'm looking at a couple in the next room). I don't think it would be a Ludwig mount. Something else...

HI again, The 12in tom was redrilled. I wonder if anyone can tell what hardware it was drilled for? How much does this devalue the kit? I had forgotten that this was the case. The current hardware covers a center hole for a tube to slip into the drum. and there are 2 small bolt holes on either side. Does anyone know if Ludwig had tom arms like that at that time or later??? thanks,Mbira

Looks like a Rogers Swiv-O was on there at 1 time..

If the tom is drilled,usually the BD is too then....

thanks blairndrums, there are no extra holes in the bass drum perhaps they used a stand to mount the tom on? there was a Rogers swivel-matic kick pedal with the set.

Yes that looks like a Rogers swivo was on there now that all the holes are revealed. They did a good job of reusing holes to put it back to a Ludwig mount.

And yes it looks to me like the original wrap on that drum. The wrap ducking under ply like that is the telling sign.

Pity the date stamp is so smudged. About the only part I can make out is the month: JUL (I think).

The holes are a mystery but the things I find most interesting about this cool little kit are the variations on the catalog standard: Offset rail mount vs standard centered rail mount, folding spurs vs standard retracting spurs, and extended length floor tom legs vs standard shorter legs. But I suppose anyone could order it up anyway they wanted. And it certainly doesn't detract from the fact that this one of the most fun jazz kits on the planet to play.

thanks Zenstat and gwm and blairndrums for the info and interest. I really love this kit but haven't been playing it much lately due to it's vintage value. So I am wondering if the redrilled tom makes it more of a players kit and not as collectable. I would be curious what you guys have to say about that??

I lucked out ... when i came across this kit i had never thought about vintage drums and it never occurred to me that old drums were collected. I was jamming with some college students who used the jazzette as there house set. they told I didn't need to bring any drums if i didn't mind playing on a "kids sized set". I really liked playing them and asked for more info about them and one of the kids said they were his mom's drums. So I called his mom and she said she inherited them but didn't play them. She asked if I wanted to buy them for $100 plus a few bongo lessons for her son. And well I bought them. Still I knew nothing about them for years.

They came with zildjian A 20 ride" and hihats and all the stands and the supra in good shape. also speed king and swiv-o kick pedals. the whole kit nothing missing except one bass hoop. I got hooked on the sound of old drums so I started to pick up drums at garage sales and flea markets and now want to learn more about what I have collected. So thanks again, Mbira

I suppose I should have posed this in the intro section?
