Little metal pieces to convert into concert toms?

Loading...

I haven't seen them in years but does anyone recall the little aluminum or metal bits that allowed you to remove the resonator heads and keep the bottom hoops and tension rods on?

I know you can cut the resonators close to the edge to keep the rims on. But does anyone still make these?

Before I get all the flack about crappy tone, my intention is to make a gigable nesting set, 12" 16" 22" and 12" snare. One kick drum case and one duffle bag for hardware. This set is a lowly pacific set I'm not worried about beating up.

Any other ideas are welcome.

I had them in 1970.

Lost all of them.

They were Z shaped and dented the bearing edges.

good luck

Go to Home Depot and get a couple feet of PEX tubing, or similar stiff plastic tubing, cut it square and to the correct length with a razor knife (carpet knife blades are the best, but watch your fingers) and slide these between the lug and underside of the hoop, with the tension screw passing through the middle.

They don't need to be aluminum, and the plastic will be lighter and not scratch anything around it.

I've seen these little s-hook clips pop up on the Bay occassionally. They're usually NOS Rogers. Keep checking periodically and you'll pick them up fairly cheap. No one seems to want them.

Yeah those are the ones, come to think of it, the last time I saw some was on a Rogers Londoneur set at a pawn shop in the early ninetys. Had blue hydraulic heads and those aqarian cymbal spring mounts.

The tubing sounds like the right ticket, not that I'm too worried about hurting the bearing edge on these drums, but that's probably what someone said about my club date when they let the 12" rest on the t rod.
