Q re: Club date lugs

Thinking about the older nickel plated clubdates, are lugs the same size, regardless of the drum? So... did snares, rack toms, floor toms and bass drums all use the same lugs? Thx. Jim

Hey Mike, aren't the floortom lugs the same as the bass drum lugs? I know the rack tom lugs are smaller and have a longer receiver than the snare type but I thought the floortom and bass were the same. As with most things in my life....I could be wrong.

well shoot. we may both be a little right or wrong..

i just went to look at my kits. i had just finished completing a 12x15 and i knew it had the smaller lugs and based my comment on that. i checked my 2 other 12x15's and they also have small lugs. but, my 14x14 clubdate floor tom has the large lugs like the bass drum.

thanks boscoe!

Yeah, the bowtie lugs on the 14x14s are the same as the BDs... at least on all of the one's I've seen.

I cant find it again, but I came across what appeared to be a painted black club date kit w nickel hardware. I love the combination of black w nickel. Did ludwig ever make such a set?

Thx jim

they did and i have one. i just got it recently and have been working on the rehab, so i haven't taken any great pics yet. mine is a 66. was a ludwig combo clubdate kit 20/12/matching jazz festival. when i bought them, someone had starting converting an older 12x15 for a floor tom. so, i painted it to match. the kit is black lacquer with nickel hardware. real classy i think.

i do have one pic here. its without the floor tom. i have an original front head for it now as well.

Ohhh, that's really nice. Exactly what I was thinking. If it's ever up for sale or trade, please let me know. Thanks! Jim

I found that picture...the gold sparkle looks out of place, but it sure is a beauty.

yeah, ive seen that pic before. when i found mine, i did a lot of searching pics for another one. black and gold usually look pretty good together. but i have to agree that i like the original silver sparkle inlays on mine. mine is basically like that kit but with a 12x15 floor tom that is earlier. i'm probably gonna get mine out for a nice pic shoot when the weather gets a little nicer.
