Snare identity help...NOB Silver Anniversary? Year? Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Loading...

Hi all,

I believe this drum to be a Ludwig NOB 6.5" Silver Anniversary from the 30's. Its heavily oxidized but I like the look of it, so I think I will leave it as is. Besides there is some brass peaking through so.....

Would love some insight on how to tell the exact year. This drum sounds fantastic. I have a few brass shell drums from the 30's, also a few 70's BB, and this drum has a fuller richer tone in comparison. The throw works great, it's quite smooth, and it appears as though everything is original to the drum, but I don't know that for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes I did just get it. I believe I payed a bit much for it, but I will take this drum over my 6.5" 70's BB any day of the week....

Thanks for your thoughts on polishing.

I was hoping for someone to assist in helping me identify the correct model and year.

What really sucks..

Around 1987-89,there was a Silver Ann snare advertised as a "old Ludwig snare drum" for $100 in the back of a drum magazine at the time..guy was in Milwaukee....

I grabbed it,and it was a real nice one,but the one with snare wires under the top head,or maybe just a Super Sens version..can't remember..

Anyway, played it,didn't care for it too much..didn't know what to ask..so..I asked a well known vintage drum authority at the time what it was worth...

He said those were "quite common"..so,I sold it for $200! MISTAKE!

Years and years later,I happen to talk to the guy in Milwaukee again, and he said he had around 100 phone calls on that drum, and that I was the first to call!

Ah yes, thats a heartwarming story. I hope you didn't sell it to the "well known drum authority".

.....but seriously, thanks for the responses. I was fairly sure it was a Silver Anniversary but I didn't realize it was only produced for one year in 35. I've come across photos in my search that state 1936.
