I was in a guitar shop the other day and the luthier that owns it now bought the business from the guy who opened it in 1965, the original owner was Whitey Lunzar.

In chatting with the current owner he mentioned that Whitey sold a lot of Rogers, Slingerland and Ludwig drums back in the day and that he might have some boxes of NOS and used parts down in the basement. It's a small one man operation so I'm not getting too excited but you never know...

I told him that if he digs them out I will sort them and bag them for him.

Could be trash... could be treasures... he said he would be very happy to sell anything in the boxes that anybody wants.

I'll see what surfaces and post some pics.

Some of my best deals i have had are from a one man's small shop

from the basement. You should also ask about old drum catalog's too...Mikey

You one lucky boy!!!!

Back when Whitey was still alive in the early '80's, he let me nose around in a back corner of the place and I found 3 NOS still-in-the-box Slingerland/Amrawco 13, 14, and 16-inch calfskin heads. The 13 and 16's had Krupa on the boxes and the 14 had Buddy. He wouldn't let me give him any money for them! Just said, "Get 'em outta here."

I'd not be shocked if Bill didn't have a nice stash of things around there. He sold me my first Radio King snare drum back in '81.

Good luck, congratulations, and please keep us posted!

Tub-W,

Cool!!

It is an interesting place. I get the impression from Bill that the old drum parts are down to bits and pieces.

Really interesting talking to Bill... he should probably write another book.

More to follow... :)

Cool opportunity, Jim. Not too many of those kinds of places around, anymore. Like an old Hardware store. Happy hunting and look forward to seeing/hearing about any gems you may find. Hopefully, all will be rust-free.
