Here's a kit you don't see everyday that's being offered in the local area.
Looking For Something "different"? Last viewed: 6 hours ago
Title should read, "Looking for something hideously gaudy?" ;)
You'd better be a dang fine drummer, cause when you take those to a gig, all eyes will surely be upon you.
How much are they asking? I'd love to have a set of those someday. Cash and space allowing. I think some of my kids would have to move out first. Walking
These look cool in red too and double bass. They seem to have a hefty pricetag when these come up for sale. Neat stuff though.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Shocking at first - only on my first cup o' jo. Are those Sound Projectors? I know there were a few Co's that made those; do they mention a brand name? Very cool-looking and yes, awesome in red! How much are they listed for?

PS - I see they are "North Drums".

The asking price is $2800 or best offer OR a possible trade for a large acrylic fish aquarium. As the title says -- "different"!
Probably a good time to ask..
Are there many North Drums in the South?
Cheers

I would have loved to hear Buddy's verdict on those! It would probably have been an epic zinger!!!!

Interstingly, I can't ever remember seeing Buddy comment on North Drums specifically, and I only make mention of this as I have a TON of material with "all things Buddy" covering decades, including every type of interview.. media.. film.. video.. etc. I agree though... he would have HATED them! Additionally...
I do remember one of the first guys to go "ALL North Drums" back in the day.. and .. there is a recorded LIVE performance that features his all North kit too. The drummer was Gerry Brown... the year was 1977... and the group was "Chick Corea and Return To Forever" . The LIVE performance was a three album set!, and the really neat thing was the fact that Gerry Brown was playing ALL North drums at the time. They have a very unique sound... extremely "pointed" would be an apt description, and as such probably aren't all that suitable for certain styles. As an accessory type drum though...
... such as the way Billy Cobham incorporated them into his Fibes Crystalite set back in/around 1978, they were incredible! Saw Billy Cobham LIVE 6 times back then.. ( and all in intimate settings. I have pics! ) .. and those North Drums were sumthin' else... actually, it was MOSTLY Billy that was sumthin' else!... but those drums were neat, and especially the way he used them. As a complete set though.. well .. certainly an aquired taste I would say, but I would imagine they have their place... somewhere!
An addendum: Here's what you want to hear. This is the INTRO to the LIVE show back in 1977. Go to the 4:00 mark and Gerry Brown has a small transitional solo. Those are the North Drums. Actually, if you have 7 mins. or so, listen to the whole thing. The best of fusing Jazz/Rock together back in the day. ALL fabulous players. No mistaking those North drums though. Very unique sound! ENJOY!!

Wish I had a large acrylic fish tank. I recall seeing a "Heart" video, a loooong time ago, where the drummer was playing a white set of these.....I think. Maybe on Don Kirchsner's "Rock Concert". Maybe.
