thanks john, i did as you advised and sent him a pm. i hope he can help. this is really beginning to bum me out, i can't play without a snare and worst of all...my snare, it won't be the same any more, i know how my luck goes, always the wrong way. bummer man, bummer!

Looks like the plate part is missing from your snare mechanism and I think you'll have difficulty finding a replacement without buying a whole new strainer.

Having said that, try re-constructing it without the plate......Dolfan's step by step is spot on and I've used it myself....you could always cut a piece of perspex or thick hard plastic to size and use that if you can't make it work without the plate (I've just redone three strainers myself but can't for the life of me remember how essential that plate is).

A usable fall-back (without drilling new holes, which all vintage drum people will tell you is sacrilege) is to get an old Rogers strainer - the hole pattern is the same and it's a nice simple strainer and much less temperamental than the Camco beast.

It's not 100 % accurate but it was a common modification back in the 60s and 70s which didn't damage the drum. Two of my six Camco snares have Rogers strainers on them.

As for the bass drum hoop, Precision Drum company do a nice ready-lacquered black one with a 1/2" groove for the wrap (which you don't have and will have problems finding a replacement for) which is as similar as you'll find to the Camco original.

As for the other rims, Camco went through three stages of rims during the 1960s and I can't really see from the photos which generation yours are.

The early ones are a much sought after chrome on brass cast hoop, then a steel pressed hoop and then some that are pretty much like the current generic off-the-shelf ones you'd get from any drum shop.

I've got all three on different drums/kits. A really good close up shot of the rims on the toms would be useful.

first of all, i have been playing this snare, but things won't stay tight and in place because of a cup'l pieces being broke

now for the insides to go back in.

first lay bar into the hub, making sure the spring is at the top of the spring hole, spring will be on top of square knob on the bar

then insert tubenuts and tighten.

ok now this is where my problem begins, the tubes are damaged and will not stay in place. the one on the right is broke off inside the screwhole and the left screwhole is a lit'l stripped and won't allow nut to stay tight. i have superglued these pieces a cup'l time but after about a month of every day play they come loose again and can't get the sound i want

ok now what is suppose to happen is, with tubenuts in place you should be able to slide the hub in place and tighten to drum with small washers n nuts[Attachment: 51036]
