It's a Ludwig. The strainer is not original, it appears repainted, and is missing the badge. Probably late 50's.

I agree with BEC. Seems to have been painted inside and out. If it was late 50's, it would have been a clear interior. For the right price, that would be a really nice project shell, and in your hands JC, I have no doubt that you'd turn it into something absolutely stunning!

I have an 80'sRogers xp8 kit that I picked up but the wrap is all cracked. I am having my color studio match that blue color so I can paint the shells the original color. I will have a gallon of the paint made, so there should be plenty left over to do a snare. I have been looking around for a Rogers wood snare drum but they are expensive. Even though this one is a Ludwig I think it would be cool to paint it with the Rogers and add it to the kit.

What about buying a new bare shell? Your options are good and you can do any depth and bearing profile you desire. Add some period Rogers hardware and your all set~!

Glenn, I have considered that. I think it would just add up real quick and be too expensive, but I have not really looked into it yet either. I am hoping to find a decent quality drum with all of its parts, a drum that is need of a new wrap or finish. To go out and get Rogers lugs, hoops and strainer from ebay would be expensive. If I could get them cheep enough then that would be a great way to do it. Maybe I should post in the wanted section.

If the snare in the auction stays cheap it might be the way to go. Your right the parts add up quick. When I was thinking about scratch building a snare (solid shell 10 lug 6x14 with die cast hoops) I think it was over $500.

I do have some Ludwig marching snare shells I could cut down but geeeeee, I hate to do that to them. Just looked at ebay, 10 Rogers lugs, 29.00 and one bid. Strainer and butt, 29.00 and one bid. They have a few dyas to go so you know the price will go up.
