Hey thanks for showng off you kit they look very nice. The Rocker 2 is what got me started on restoring drums. I was going to re-wrap the red kit in the picture below with wood veneer but was afraid I might be doing something stupid. Thats when I found this site and asked for oppinions. The result was to go ahead, these are not vintage drums and are Ludwigs entry level and know one wants them. Well, I still felt like it would be a sin to remove such good wrap so I collected a bunch of orphans from ebay and built a monster Rocker kit and wraped with maple veneer. I love it and think it sounds terrific. Mine have the maple shells, exept fot the 16" floor tom, it has the granitone finish inside.
After completing the monster kit I wanted to do it again so I started looking at Craigs List to find old crappy drums to recover. That was about two years ago and now I have 13 drum sets. The plan was to flip them but I dont do ebay as a seller and c/l is a pain. But mainly I fall in love with them.
So the Rockers might not be considered vintage or much desired but give them time, look at the Standards and how guys get excited over them.
Thanks again, nice video!

I agree. Give 'em time. The mid 80s Rocker set I have sounds wonderful. The chrome over wood 6.5x14" snare is my favorite. :)
The Rockers (II) all had thinner shells than the regular Ludwigs. In fact, I've heard more than a few folks on these forums say the shells on these kits are more or less the same as the later 4-ply Ludwigs they made for a few years in the late 80s/early 90s (the SUPER CLASSICs)..
By the way, the drums sound terrific as does your playing! Beefy groovy!
Dang! Nice job on the woody wrap-up. Slick work, for sure.
I honestly cannot recall owning a Rocker kit. I'm sure I did, but I can't remember it. Oh well.
What I do know is I've been impressed with the sounds of them. They are yet another sleeper awaiting discovery.
Even Luddy's 6ply kits have a good sound. Not sure they ever made a bad sounding kit ... within the context of this Vintage Drum world.

You know, you are right. They are the thinner "super classic" type shells, can't believe I missed that.
I can remember starring at my older brothers rocker II catalog for hours, and then find one at a yard sale across the street from where I grew up. Crazy!

Again, your drums sound damn nice! What camera did you use?
iPhone... I never did a video with my digital cam because the drums would always tax the mic. I tried one day with my phone and presto!
