I'd like to see DW or Gretsch come out with a signature Dennis Wilson kit- he was just as good if not better than Ringo!

I would say DW doing an "aqua 'moire' satin flame" but Camco is defunct...

So how bout Gretsch doing a signature Dennis Wilson champagne sparkle after his first kit and the kit he played on the "Lost Concert" in '64.

Rewraps ... When lowered expectation and compromise blurs reality enough so that the best is not necessary.

I used to do "Ringo" rewraps (always said they were) and did quite well with them.

I used to pick up Butcher Block kits really cheap or orphans, strip them and do a first class rewrap (glue method) along with repainted interiors. All of them sold really well with it clearly stated it was a rewrap.

I never got why people hate rewraps, the ones that someone took time with are way better than when they left the factory back in the 60's and 70's. (I'm speaking of Ludwig specifically)

Paint the house, Great, have a quality paint job done on the car, Great, a beat to crap guitar or one with a new paint job, Great.....

Change the wrap on a drum kit and off to Hades ya go...... Soap Box

Not "people". It's a select group within the vintage drumming community with higher expectations. No big. It's like the toy collectors who only purchase and collect on the card. If its not shrink wrapped and perfect, they are not interested.

I've got a very good friend, John Hollansworth, who is a vintage car restoring nut. He still races. His restorations are absolute perfection. If it didn't ship with it, it don't go on. That's HIS way of restoring. He's good at it and races some of his collection. Not all of our friends think along those lines.

If you have to ask the question,,, you wouldn't understand the answer.

A rewrap is and will always be just a rewrap.

But, there are a LOT of "people" (yes, they are still "people") that are happy with a rewrap for various reasons. COST is a BIG part of it! I know of a guy out of Tulsa who does "rockabilly" music shows and is quite successful and "in demand" for what he does. He's about my age, so in his "roots" is the early Beatles music. He told me he'd LOVE to have a "Ringo" set for his drummer... but knew they were simply out-of-his-range price-wise. Until we got to talkin' about it. No, I haven't built him one yet... but will sooner-or-later.

I sold a "Ringo ReWrap" kit I did about 18 mos. ago and have another customer that has ordered one. Whether the "select group within the vintage drumming community with higher expectations" like it or not, there IS a market for them. And, IMO there's not a thing wrong with marketing them, as long as the seller is up front with the fact that they're rewraps. My customers know exactly what they are getting!
