Hi - The 3-ply shell, silver interior/no paper tag, makes it a late 50's/60' (Brooklyn shell) snare drum. One of the other guys will chime in and tell which model it is, but it's a 50's snare going by your description.

A 6-lug model would make it the Dixieland model snare drum.

The snare has a label inside. Paper label-Model 4105 Serial 5288. Im having a problem posting a picture. The attachment is too large and will not upload. Not sure how to get around that.

Great. Thanks. Now I need to locate afew replacement parts and replace the heads. I am looking forward to hearing the tone of the snare. Any idea of the value of the drum?

If it has the die-cast hoops, you can crank it up fairly high without worries, I found they sound pretty good cranked up. If its the single flange hoops with the hoop clips on the tension rods, you won't be able to crank it up so much as the hoops will bend. Tuned in the moderate range, they sound a little on the boxy side. As far as value, I'd do an ebay search for completed, sold listings. They average around $175-$250 depending on condition. I had one, and I can tell you it was a nice affordable way to get into a vintage Gretsch snare, but it was kind of a one trick pony. With only six tension rods per side it did rather limit the tuning range.
