1940's Ludwig 11x7 Find Last viewed: 5 minutes ago

Loading...

I am building a 1940's kit. Tophat and Cane style.

The original 11x7 tom was going to be difficult to have made.(I think)

I found this at the LA Pro Drum Shop.

Jerry there even threw in an extra 11-inch head.

It turned out to be 10-3/4.

But I did find out that the drum was out of round on the bottom side.

With the 10-3/4 head not fitting, I was freaking out.

Then I measured. Oh not an 11.

It is out, but I have moisturized the areas and clamped overnight.

Not too much pressure.

I got a 1/16-th inch out of it. Doing it again now. Gradually.

NOW: I am looking for an 11-inch single flange rim.

Thanks SA

nice find! thats a very classy drum. i love the flat back imperial lugs.

i also found a 7x11 ludwig tom awhile back. mine has zephyr lugs, double inlay hoops, calf head, dual mufflers and a decal badge only. ive got the bottom hoop for it. but it is way out of round. sounds great.

good luck in getting yours finished up! love it...

Here's my 7x11 Leedy tom that had been bastardized with the pictured (Sonor?) mount. Otherwise, the tom has the original stick chopper hoops with clips, original muffler, and five original lugs per side. I filled in the big holes for the tom mount, and rewrapped thi drum and two other orphan Leedy drums to make my little bop set 16x18, 12x16, 7x11. I left the original badge (pictured) off of the rewrapped drum. The badge is aluminum. the closest dating that i can pin down is 1930-1948. The aluminumleads me to think that it was made during World War II. There are a couple of shops in the Dallas area that sell leftover odd ball sizes of drum heads for pennies on the dollar I bought three of them for $15.00.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
