Who Cares?

What if it was a house kit in a recording studio for for well over 20 years and numerous types of drummers took the throne? Some famous, some just really talented?

Most recording studios charge for their use, this is how you document who played and when !! Anything else would be hearsay and that`s not admissible !!

It was my studio, so I know who the players were. It's a Yamaha 6 piece custom touring kit (Colbalt Blue) Question was: to a potential buyer, does it matter who sat behind them over the multitude of recording sessions. They have over 25 years of Detroit History on them... Who Cares?

Easy now, They're virgins, never been to a gig (ever... in over 2 decades)

Ok since you know who played on the kit, spill the beans! If it was the house kit and the drummers from the MC5, Alice Cooper, or The Stooges recorded on the kit, I'd say you would have something special. But that was more like 40+ years ago and those famous albums were probably recorded in LA.

Would love to know the famous folks who played on the kit.

Thanks,

Ray

My answer would still be yes !!

If Justin Bieber recorded his latest hit on them, you`de have no problem get`n rid of them to some rich teenie booper !!

If Metalica recorded a hit with them, Bunch of potheads and radio stations would prolly give for them.

If Ernie and the Machanics recorded on them, it would just be another Yamaha kit !!

If I played them, you`de need new heads,.........

....See where I`m going with that ?

First, you mean Ernie & the Automatics......and second, they may be worth more than "just another Yamaha kit" since the drummer in Ernie & the Automatics is Sib Hasian, the second drummer with the band Boston......but that may be only if you are a HUGE Sib Hasian fan...:p

My feeling is that, to a player, it shouldn't matter. The sound and craftsmanship of the drums should dictate the price, not the name on it or who owned it or played it in the past. Maybe to collectors, but they are the reason drummers can't get a hold of nice unique equipment so they don't count to me. I guarantee you that if Buddy Rich had spent a year of his life endorsing the ****tiest drums ever made it wouldn't make those drums sound any better. However, some ridiculous collector would still drop $2000 on them because he played them. All a matter of perspective. You a drummer or a wall decorator?

But is does matter to a player ,who is also a collector,as in for example Bun E Carlos, and Bermuda. Those guys are pro drummers all the way,and also guys who have great collections.

Take 2 70's vintage Ludwig super classic, kits in green sparkle,14/16/18/26,and a vintage LM 402,with Paiste 2002/s 15/18/20/24.One is just a kit from that vintage in good condition, and the other belonged to John Bonham.

One kits will possibly go for around 7-8 K,and the other....a number followed by 5 or 6 zeros.

History, provenance, originality, collectability, and celebrity star power do play a huge part in price,as well they should. If you're paying that mush for a piece of history, then you will usually go the great lengths to preserve that piece of history, for future generations to enjoy.Just my 2 cents.

Agreed that someone will care. If Stephen Adler recorded on them, they are probably almost unobtainable to 99% of the world's population, pricewise. I would think that there could possibly be bidding wars between Donald Trump's son, a Saudi Sheik or two, and maybe even a wealthy headbanger athlete like John Rocker or Roger Clemens.

Other names that could send them to the stratoshphere are Steve Sweet, Greg D'angelo, Tommy Lee, Troy Luchetta, Rod Morgenstein, or Bobby Blotzer!

The point of my satirical reply is to say that someone will care. No matter the genre or actual drummers that recorded, someone out there holds their bodies of work in high regards. The trick? Find those people!!!

Ya know something, drumhack? In my opinion, you're a pretty bright guy. The last several replies you've submitted were quite logical and well-thought through. I don't want you to get too swell-headed but, you make a lot of sense. Jeez, maybe it's the beer talking!

Personally, I could care less who played them if I were the interested party. I would be more interested in how they play, overall condition...I am a player. I can't afford collections, I need my pieces to perform.

If someone who collects things was interested, the information about who used them could be a huge tool in getting every cent they are worth. They may be valuable to someone...as mentioned before, ya gotta find em.

I hope your sale goes good!
