99% of the places I play have slippery floors.I want to find a lightweight rug.I see Kaces has one for 40 bux. Seems about the right size. Any other ideas or tips will be appreciated. Vati

The best drum rug I have found is at Target. It's the "Room Essentials" brand (I think a Target house brand). They are in the "rugs" section. It's 4' deep by 5.5' wide, which is a perfect size. It has a non-slip rubberized backing. Plus, it's thin enough that you can fold it up instead of having to roll it up. I fold mine in half twice, then just lay it on top of everything in the car. Takes up WAY less space than a rolled up rug. Super durable too. Best of all: $19.99!

Don't waste your money with professional "drum rugs". I have tried them all, and they are all inferior (and cost a lot more) to the Room Essentials rug at Target. They have several colors to choose from.

A friend is playing my Vistalite kit at a jam session. Not the best photo, but look closely at the rug: It's a true drum rug that I napped on during my preschool days, circa 1966! A fine example of the delayed power of suggestion, since I didn't begin playing until I was 15 (but it's been under my drums since then).

This rug works great. Apart from being perfectly sized for a bass drum, its rubberized backing makes it stay put.

I asked Mom about it around 15 years ago. She's pretty sure it was a baby gift, but her best guess is that it came from Sears or Lazarus, which was the big department store in Columbus, Ohio, at the time.

I have a rug that was a leftover front door rug from me and my dad's music store. It's just an economy type rug from Sam's. I think it was only about $15. It's rubber bottomed so it doesn't slip and has ridges that run the length of it so spurs set right in. It's really durable and rolls up easily. It has a little weight to it but its the best rug I've ever used.

I use one of those low pile rubber backed carpets that you see at the entry of most businesses, aprox. 4 x 6 size. They work great. I have a few of them.

i use a fake persian rug. it just makes the whole kit look better.

but you can go to big lots and they sell rugs. i'm guessing they're reminants from carpet stores. nice way to use the reminants w/o them going into the landfill.

you can also get one of those in door/out door rugs/mats from home depot or places of the like. these have a rubber bottom. i've seen drummers use these the most. i've also seen them for sale on craigslist going for cheap.

I too use a 4' x 6' woven jute/rope rug with a rubber backing. The bass drum stays where I put it. I won't do a gig without it. I spent years chasing bass drums around on slippery floors and having to wrangle them back into position - while I'm playing. Never again. My rug goes where my drums go. I don't always have to use it, some gigs have rugs on the floor, but my little rug goes with my drums everywhere.

Too many great drums to list here!

Well, I've got to agree with the "remnant" and "rubber-backed" posts above. That's what I had back-in-the-day, and I don't remember where I got it or what's happened to it, but it went everywhere my drums went. Period. Always was rolled up and thrown on top of everything else in the 70s Dodge cargo van...
