Selling Drum Stuff Last viewed: 48 minutes ago

I'm double-posting this here and on JR's Ludwig For Sale thread to try and curtail this stupid nonsense that seems to have invaded the forum once again ... as of late. TommyP has put up a pinned "FEEDBACK" thread - cool. That should help to identify the ethical gents. The more we speak out and identify unethical sellers here, the less damage they can cause. I applaud those that spoke out recently on a different matter. Eventually ... maybe ... because of all the open communication ... those gents may get satisfaction from that seller. These aren't flames. These are a call to action to do the right thing. It's flat out wrong to put money before morals and ethics. Wrong! For the very few of you who can't seem to learn this lesson ... it's just a matter of time before you cross the gent who will take a road trip and "make it right". That will be a thread worth reading.

post

When time and again a kid defines himself lacking ethics and maturity as clearly as Johnnyringo has through the years ... well, you know going into the deal what you will most likely find. If after taking in all of the knowns, and you still wish to deal with the mook, there's really no recourse when the deal DOES go bad. The kid has trouble selling items on here because of WHO he is ... not what he's selling. This immature behavior is more the norm than the exception. He was kicked off the DFO forum for his selling behavior. He changed his name and tried again. It evidently wasn't enough to keep him selling there, as he was kicked off again.

My question to the general ... what does it take to learn the lesson?

About two years ago, there was another gent who sold here with a seriously nasty reputation, not unlike this goof. Most all were warned, yet a few decided to do business with him. Then the complaint threads piled one on top of the other. They were asking the same questions and demanding the same things. We really couldn't do anything to help. We watched the bleeding and moaning and gave a pat on the back. It was sickening to see the good folks get taken advantage of by the unethical. Oh well ...

... and it continues.

Thanks for the support. My issue really isn't over money. It is over this person continuing to drag things out while he continues to do business here. If I as a newbie took months to refund a little bit of money for a wrong part, I'd be hung out to dry (and rightfully so). Folks should be warned that there are some of us that have had issues with a particular seller. It doesn't need to be swept under the rug. If this person makes right with everyone, then that's different and maybe he can regain his reputation.

I like to treat folks on here and DFO even better than ebay customers since it is a close knit community.

If there ever is a problem with one of my items, let me know and I'll do what I can to make it right.

Appreciate it,

Ray

Cruisin while you shouldn't have to go this route, could you file a PayPal claim to get a refund? If that was the method of payment of course.

ec...yes, paypal was the method of payment and I suppose I could file a paypal claim to get a full refund even though he refused to honor the refund. I did however, tell him that I would accept $300 as compensation since he didn't want the drum back, and rightly or wrongly I will stand behind my commitment.

Thanks for the suggestion...

From The Ploughman

Cut beds are unrestorable, and the drum is no longer what it is supposed to be, nor can it be made to be.

Bob,

I think everything that can be said about this sour transaction has been said, so back to the issue of restoration. Ploughman's opinion is that cut beds are unrestorable as recutting the bearing edges destroys the original profile and dimensions of the drum, but I'd be surprised if Jack Lawton can't figure out a way to rebuild the cut beds back up to the original profile using some of the new wood epoxy materials now available. Since this is a player's drum rather than a collector's piece, rebuilding the beds might turn this "ten-lug Powertone" back into a playable Dynasonic.

Thoughts?

I'm going to weigh in one more time on this and then move on. Let's suppose the beds were not cut, but instead had a wrap that was in bad shape or the lugs were pitted or it just looked horrible. Would this be a collectors drum? I'm sorry, but I just don't get it, the drum looks and sounds beautiful, it has all the correct parts and is wrapped in a rare red onyx. Let's put this in prospective, there is one on ebay right now at $1,600 with still a few days left. This drum will probably go for well over $2,000. I sold my drum for $1,200 shipped, which means it cost him $1,150 for a drum that had it been mint could have brought $2,500. So tell me how the buyer saving $1,350 is a bad deal.

A drum with pitted lugs or a bad wrap is still a drum that has not been altered!

300.00 bucks or 100. more (you did offer 200.) to keep the peace and to do the right thing , will be in a year or so no more than a night at the bar when you have done more drum selling in the end it will all wash out.. just my 2 and 1/2 cents.

don't make a mountain out of a molehill just chalk it up to experience and the woes of dealing in vintage drums you do the right thing and everyone is a winner...peace

1200 for a drum the seller CONCEALED an important fact about......or 2500 for a mint drum the seller is very explicit about condition, any and all issues or perceived issues or anything that might be perceived as an issue are two radically different things. Whether one pays 5 bucks of 5 thousand bucks for anything, the buyer deserves the basic respect of honesty from the seller.

Hell will freeze over and Jesus will ice skate with the Devil before I believe you did not purposefully conceal that the drum had been cut. Given the crappy pics at the onset, ignoring the request for specific high resolution pics, the small pics in the "Better Pics" thread, and you deleting the original thread in which you responded offensively to MY request for better ..... and specific pics..... including pics of the bed and snare side edges, grommet inside and out, wrap edges, etc. THEN you posted you would gurantee satisfaction with the drum or you would refund the sale.

That whole thread was deleted........... by you.

A mint drum for 300 or 3000 does not matter. The honesty of the seller is what matters. When the seller conceals something he knows about the drum that would affect the price, and continues with the sale...... the buyer is going to be upset, unsettled, and should be refunded.

The only "right thing" here is a full refund. Not 200, not 300........ all of it.

I will never buy anything from you.

I will never sell anything to you.

I will never recommend anyone to deal with you.

I will never recommend you to anyone.

For the uninitiated in the elite Dyna leagues, what's the deal with that aluminum truss holding the snare wires? How do the wires work if there is a frame around them?

Just wonderin'
