Whattya think of this Luxor?

I'm kind of backing into being a Rogers fan, because I started working on some Swivomatic pedals. Man! Those things are so well designed and made. No wonder they went broke!

Plus, the hardware elves seem to keep putting the pedals and hi hats in the basement....

ANYWAY, I'm checking out this Rogers snare on ebay... but I know 0 about them. A fair deal??

This may be of interest to someone w/ a BDP set, but the price is a bit high. For half the $$ one could get a great Brass Powertone, or for a $100 more, a wood Powertone, or Jazz Festival. These 6 lug drums are attractive & tempting, but I've found it's better to hold back, cough up a little more $, & get an 8, 10 lug professional level snare. I will only get a Luxor or other 6 luggers if they are available for peanuts (at a swap meet, etc.,).

I remember we debated the value of a BDP Luxor on here a few years ago... it was mint in the orginal case with stand and sticks. General concensus was it would not bring $200. It ended at $275. I've never touched a Luxor but I am big fan of the Tower model.

It's tough... if that is the drum you want.... you may wait a year or two to see another one. Heck it's pretty easy to blow that kind of money on a nice dinner out with the family.... so maybe treat yourself to the drum and never look back because one will probably show up for $75 in a week.

It's high but what isn't these days?

The listing of the seller's other items and the way it's listed see very familiar. That stuff being sold looks very familiar to an eBay seller named Stewy, who changed his selling name quite a few times, but has been consistently higher priced. Last I remember, they/he/whoever was selling from a storefront/warehouse in the Pomona area of L.A. county. Claremont, where this seller is located, is right next door to Pomona.

They do have a high amount of nice quality drums, and I believe Currotto bought a few from him too.

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

I did buy one of his -- the higher priced one.

The pictures seemed very clear, and the drum looks pristine, or damned close to it.

I'll post some pics when it arrives.

REALLY curious about the sound!

I collect Luxor snares and have 24 of them. I've gigged and recorded with them, they are great drums. Same shell as a Powertone, Tower or Dynasonic. Same lugs, 6 instead of 8 (or 10). The throwoff is the same as those other snares as well, the Luxor and Tower each with their own faceplate, but the body of the strainer is the same.

Same edges etc, and the tone control was optional. Same butt as the Tower. Available in all the Rogers finishes from the 60's.

With maple Powertones bringing $400+, a nice Luxor is a good alternative. They sound great...

Wow! Nice collection!

I'm very interested myself, bfulton. I do these video comparisons of snare drums and I would love to put up the Luxor against the Powertone. Since it's the same shell, I'd say you're in for a sonic treat. My wood PT is just the best little wood snare - consistently fat, articulate - just brilliant.

Make sure you give us your review.
