Snare string Last viewed: 39 minutes ago

What snare string are you guys using, or what homemade solution have you found? I have seen Puresound string on the web but I know you guys are pretty handy and thrifty when needed so I'm curious before I spend money...

I have to use string as opposed to a plastic strip on the Ludwig throwoff and I tried this thin twine but I couldn't get it threaded unless I burned the ends a little with a soldering iron :) Kind of sounds like a lot of trouble for something I'm sure is cheap...

Ive used old school braided fishing line in a pinch before, as well as mini blind cord.

Drum cord doesn't work for me. Picked up a tip from a guy to use waxed dress shoelaces. They work flawlessly. You can even hit them with a little heat if you have a hard time Gettin the knot to hold. They have held up to the heaviest hitters I know that have played on my stuff. Great solution and super cheap and accessible.

Yes! I too have found that the adjustment cord from old mini blinds works great as snare cord. Very strong with little tendency to stretch. Before throwing out those old mini blinds, snip the cords off and you'll have a couple years worth of snare cord.

+1 on the Ludwig cord. Fairly inexpensive and easier for me to find

than mini blind cord.

Just my two cents.

I make snare straps from my old snare-side drum heads. Thin and durable. They don't stretch either.

As an AT&T technician the best string to get a hold of is what we call 12-cord.It is a waxed string we use to tie up cables with in the central office vault.Ask the next telephone man/cable splicer you see on the street to cut U off a hunk of it (and because its wax coated U don't have to worry about slipping from your throw-off's or buttplates
