sonor snare drum from the 70's Last viewed: 2 hours ago

just picked up a 1970's sonor snare drum looks like it's from 1975 has old style tention rods .but it has a yamaha strainer and no muffler and is missing 3 tention rods and no badge except for a black sonor sticker.heavy duty drum.can i substitute with different tention rods .or does any body here have some to sell.i will post some pics soon.

You can buy new tension rods that'll work fine. They might not look like the originals but they'll work just fine. Take one of yours to the local music store and match it up to some new ones. Or many places online sell them too in all different sizes. Just be sure to get the same thread as some use a fine machine thread. Hopefully someone will chime in with better info for you soon here.

I assume that when you say " old style tension rods" you mean the slot type that were usually fitted on European drums. Those rods are still currently used but Sonor had larger shanks and threads than most------1/4-20 S.A.E. thread.

Most so-called standard rods are smaller , and will not work unless you plan to replace the receiver nuts as well.You may be able to find 1/4-20 rods somewhere new but if I were you I would keep the original rods----you can find some and likely a key on ebay.

That's a California based company -----one man(?) show really------ began in the 30's , I think.

Gonzo, Your snare started life as a D454, take that Phonic hoop off the top and put a Champion hoop back, and it will be a heck of a back-up snare.

The rest appears original and it prolly came with a Swinger or something !!
