Anyone else get snide remarks when someone asks how many drumsets you own? Stuff like "you can only play one at a time" and that kind of thing. I guess the average person doesn't understand the fact that none of us really need all of these drums, but rather it's that we want them. Heck, some folks have an extra car they don't need...just saying!
The large drum collection syndrome Last viewed: 2 hours ago
I have never heard a negative word about my collection. Most people get wide eyed when they see my snare drums and vintage pedals. My in-laws thought I was nuts when I started but now are amazed at what I have.

That's good to hear! In my case, I didn't think 5 or 6 drumsets was that bad! Of course, I have a decent amount of snares and cymbals too. Now if I didn't actually play all of them, I guess I could see why one would question a collection...

Why? It's an individual's personal slant on what they decide to collect and what they decide to do with said collection.
It's no ones business how many drums a person has and it's certainly no ones business what they do with those drums.

I see your point...people collect all sorts of things, and what they do is their business.
That is an arguement me and my wife have about once a month. I don't have a big collection (yet) but I have about 8 snares plus 2 sets and a work in progress set. She says "why do you need them all? you can't play them at the same time."
I use the arguement of her shoes or clothes but most of the time I talk about how each one was crafted and is a work of art in itself even if it's not being played a the moment.
From one who has at time to time gotten towards 40 drum kits and over 100 snare drums, and cymbals towards 1000 of them. it was fun but now I've been in reduction mode for the last couple of years.
I want to get maybe down to 10 kits and 25 to 30 snare drums, I'm actually almost there now.
Still have alot of drum equipment. I'm single live alone so no outside influences on my end. But after awhile it becomes a total pain owning all this stuff. It gets to where it owns you not you owning it. So now at this point in my life I just want a few ok a bunch of drums but not a Heaping big pile like I used to have.Toilet
I don't have a problem because my wife collects ruby red glass and has a much bigger collection than I do. We have mutual respect for each other's collection.

I always loved that remark. By that same logic, one should only have one pair of pants, because you can only wear one at a time. Ridiculous. I'm a grown man and can do what I want with my money. It's no one's beeswax!
Average people don't even understand why musicians need to rehearse. "Just play the song!" is what I hear. Now, I've been a musician all my life, but even if I were not, it would still make sense, at least to me, for a musician or actor or chef or stuntperson to rehearse...or, are these average people just morons?
...you make the call! :)
