Remo coated skins quality issue? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

My hat's in the ring. I've got a couple of Remo heads that have chipped up very unnaturally. I don't use Remo heads generally, but there was a need and Remo was on sale in one if those multipack thingys ... I bought a few. Not impressed ... again. I've had issues with Remo heads over the years. Last time it was the collar crimping giving out. The time before, it was uneven edge ridge. I reeeeeeealy don't like Remo heads.

:(Very disappointed as-well! Bought a REMO Ambassador X standard coated head pack on Feb 22nd. only 49 days ago. I play/practice for about 2 hours 4 or 5 days a week. The coating started wearing off from day one. Now they look & sound like crap!! They are so bad now that my rack toms have to be re-tuned after every practice. Yes I hit hard, but never expected them to fall apart so fast! That's why I opted for Ambassador X 12 mil instead of the regular 10 mil Ambassador standard. Hears a quote/sales pitch from REMO for there Ambassador X standard coated heads! ( If you hit hard, these are the heads for you! Remo Ambassador X drumheads employ the same film as the industry-standard Coated Ambassador but are 20% thicker. The thicker head produces a greater attack and volume—as well as wider midrange tones—with increased durability and a unique feel for enhanced stick rebound.) LOL What a line of Crap! They should be ashamed of that statement! Never again will I waist money on REMO Ambassador coated heads. That statement was the leading force in opting for the Ambassador X standard coated heads. Here is some photos of the heads after day one & now after day 49. [IMG]

I feel like defending Remo, but I'm in the same boat.

Just really hoping they can sort out this quality issue.

Well I sent them (REMO) an email about the problem. Here is there reply.

I appreciate the time you spent to reach out to us on this issue and my apologies for the inconvenience. We certainly stand by our product 100% and will gladly send replacements after confirming the defect. Given the # of drumheads we produce, anywhere from 13,000 to 16,000 drumheads daily, the # of issues with the coating is exceptionally low-though can cause a serious alarm with end users, so all we can do is address them individually.

You said it, send pics of the drumheads showing premature wear of the coating. There’s also a code etched on the inner part of the flesh of each head which will tell us more about when the head was mfg’d. Should be a letter and 2 #’s like ‘J09’… ‘L10’ etc.

Also provide your address to send replacements to and confirm the sizes with the issues.

I sent them everything they asked for, including huge photos of the heads. I must say that I was very impressed with there fast response. However I was not to fond of the statement (can cause a serious alarm with end users). I guess the end users are there customers? But for what it's worth I give there end users service 5 stars for there fast response to my email. But you know I want to play now & not knowing how long it will take them to confirm or dyne that the heads are defective & send another set. I think in the mean time I may just buy a set of Evans. I wonder if Evans calls there customers end users? Hmmmm

Mark - did you ever get feedback from REMO on the problem with the new coatings?

You guys should check the boxes the heads came in. Make sure they are 'made in USA' and not in China.

That would explain everything!

John

Too many great drums to list here!
