Item for sale is a Slingerland muffler that came off a 1965 Sound King snare drum. I found this muffler in an old toolbox. I want to get 25.00 for it and you pay shipping wherever you happen to be located.

Yup, I'm thinking maybe early 70's. I thought the larger diameter knob was early 70's and beyond.

I didn't see those in the catalogs until '69.

It's nice though, whatever year it's from.

The Cook book says the first of these post style tone controls was in 1975.

I see it in the '76 catalog, but the old hook style in the '73.

Woops! I didn't pay attention to anything but the knob.

I wasn't sure what it was. Someone in a music store said it was a 1965. All I know is the shell this muffler came off of was a brick house. Heavy brass shell. It was the best snare I have ever played. A mechanism problem back in the 80's forced to part with it. Now my cousin up in Charleston, SC has it as I gave it to him many years ago before eBay/Internet.

Kev, The muffler is what i and other call a tran's muffler. When S/L change them from the hook type to the round knob with rod. They had to used the old style up-{hook's pieces} this is why you see these mufflers like this. You see an extra hole on the body that was for the hook end.The ones that had the rod/knob the muffler does have the rounded part for the nut to rest in.The hook style was flat at that point....Mikey
