slingerland WMP help! Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Wow...my first plunge into the Slingy WMP quicksand. I have a 22" bass drum and a 9X13 tom from the 70s in WMP in mint shape. The original wrap is a perfect match in both drums with no fading or yellowing. No luck in finding a matching 16X16. I decided to go for just a shell and do the wrap myself. Gary at Precision sent their 6 WMP samples to me and NOT ONE was even close.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Bill,

Check Drums and Some (www.drumsandsome.com) as they have a WHITE MARINE PEARL, a AGED MARINE PEARL, and a VINTAGE MARINE PEARL. One of those might be different from Precision...

Unlikely as the both get their wrap from Delmar, from what I understand.

Good Luck! I've been trying to get samples from him since October 2011.

Never play it the same way once.

Yeah, he's not gotten back with me either... but I haven't tried calling him yet...

From my experience, you'll have a hard time getting a response from Drums And Some until you've placed your order and you get the shipping confirmation email. He has some very unique wraps, but his pearls are the same Delmar stock that Precision (and Jammin' Sam) have. If Aged WMP doesn't match, you're better off keeping a weathered eye on eBay or in the sale section of this forum. The aging of WMP makes it nearly impossible to match with modern wrap and even difficult to match to an orphan drum.

Try drum maker, they have some customers who posted pics in their galary, I ordered some for my RK< based on the what I saw in the pics,

like others have said, if you were doing the whole it would not be as noticeable, but when you have some of the set done, and do one drum, its not going to be exact, now if you had black or white????

My first kit back in 70 was a 3-pc Gretsch in WMP out of the 50s. It was yellowed nicely, of course. Well at 15 a 3-pc set didn't cut it, and with no eBay back in the day I just ordered a new Gretsch FT. I was NEVER satisfied with the color match (duh!), and ended selling the set to my little brother and bought a new Ludwig kit.

Obviously, nothing much has changed down through the years. Run into the same issues with sky blue pearl (it of course seems to "grey" instead of "yellow"), and we've all surely seen a nice "ginger ale" shade out of our silver sparkle. Shoot, I've even had trouble matching just plain black. We could go on and on...

All this to say, good luck on the "hunt!" :)

I bought the mount tom and the bass drum on two different ebay auctions from different sellers and they matched perfectly. Of course I figured that a matching floor tom would soon show up. NOT!! I'll check out drummaker (thanks Slinger) and I'll be watching ebay like a hawk! Thanks for all the input.
