Hello,
I am the current owner of this snare and I've been on the look out for a strainer to use with it. So far no dice. Any thoughts on where I might find a strainer for this drum.
thanks.
tom
You aint gonna drill that for an aftermarket type throw are you ?
That drum had a strainer that hooked to the top hoop and then grabed the cord for the wires/guts, then you turn the knob to tighten or loosen them !! The marks on the top hoop above the cords suggest that. Alot of old German drums had this type of strainer.

Upload some more photos showing complete drum. What are the dimension?, how many t-rods ? The t-rods & hooks look American, but that hoop is unique.
I've seen childrens drums that were streamline like this w/ out a strainer. I believe I've seen that butt on old Ludwig snares. Here's a photo detail of my 1912 Ludwig snare.
PM Mike Curotto and see if he can help on this.

"70" 14X22 silver sparkle, "67" 5x14 supra, "67" 9x13 blue sparkle, "09" 16x16 Legacy green sparkle
Thanks for the advice. There is wear on the top hoop that would suggest a strainer was attached there at some point so I wouldn't dare add extra holes. It just seems wrong to do that. When I find a strainer I'll post pictures tom

Hi - I was the previous owner. Glad you found the forum. This is a great place with many knowledgeable contributors. I searched high and low for the origin of this drum and came up with nothing. It sounds like you are about where I was several months ago. I wanted to add a strainer and play the drum. In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to drill a hole in that shell. It's a great little drum - sort of a conversation piece as it sits. I also considered using just the hoops on keller shell, but never went down that route either.
I hope you find some useful information that eluded me.

The butt plate on this drum does not look like your picture.
