Slingerland push button floor tom leg rattles Last viewed: 1 hour ago

They better be 24 carrot gold for that price.I need three myself to finish a 18" Slingy floor tom. By the time it's done I'm gonna have darn near $400.00 into it.

Amen to that! Best price I've seen so far is a starting bid of $60 and $75 BIN. I'd pay $50 for 3 shipped, but no more.

Good luck with your 18. I'd like that to be my next project. Problem is, I'd want a 12 & 14 and a 14 would cost about an ounce of gold.

Hi,

Just watch it buying the screw type leg lugs as well, the threads do chew up easily.

I went through 2 sets (of 4) on my 70's 18".

Just a thought.. if you have something like a 1/4" hole for the spring loaded button. Would it be possible to fit the Eyelet or Hook type inserts from say Gibraltar or Pearl, though the hole and use the wing nuts that come with them?? I guess it would depend how much space inside the lug you have to work with..

Like I said , just a thought.

Cheers

I believe you're right. I just want to use the drums with all of their original parts. But, as I said before, if I can't eliminate the rattle, I'll do exactly what you suggested. I've seen some on feeBay, but the sellers tend to think they're worth about twice as much as I do.I haven't had the opportunity to play this kit with my band. The rattles may not even be heard with everything else going on.As always, I appreciate the advice!

Of course the rattles won't be heard in live performance unless you have a microphone pinpointed on one of the leg mounts. Recording might (I emphasize the word might) let some of the rattle be heard.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Thanks for the heads up on the weak threads. I'll see if I can make the Gibraltar eyelet & wing nut work if stiffer springs don't work. I'll do that before I get the wing screw brackets.

Cheers, mate!

You're probably right. This in mind, I'm gonna hold off on spending too much more time on trying to resolve the issue until I can see how loud it is live.

Thanks again to all of you for all of your advice!

I just wanted to update you all on the rattle "situation." I'm currently moving into a house with enough rooms that I can now have a drum room. One of the first things that was moved and set up was this kit. I finally got the chance to sit down and play it a little last night and it sounds great!

With the rattle in mind, I didn't hold back on the floor tom. The great news is, I didn't hear any rattle! Jump For Joy I did have some Hearo's flanged ear filters that cut about 6db of highs in my ears most of the time, but I didn't hear any rattles even when I didn't have them in. So, I guess maybe the settling of the extra felt over the last several months helped...I don't know, but all I care about is the rattle is gone. So, thanks again!

I have acquired period-correct hardware and cymbals for this kit, so I will post pics when I'm able to straighten up the drum room for good pics...and when I get the last two parts I need for the snare - should be real soon.

I got it December 2011, but it's 22, 13, 16. It came from Yuma, AZ. I'd like to have gotten the 20, 12, 14 kit as well!

Hey Lynn congrats to you all on the new pad~! More room = very good. Walking

Drum room must be so nice to have. Good to hear the rattles went away AND your snare parts will be there soon. I know you've been waiting to get the snare up and playing. It's all coming together. Can't wait to see it with the new hardware and cymbals.

Thanks for the congrats, Glenn! I can't wait to get in the house and get everything organized and start playing a little every day. I've only had the pleasure of having a kit set up in the house for a few months out of the last 9 or 10 years.

Now I have to convince my wife to let me get a drum to turn into a bass drum for my daughter. ;) I went in the drum room and played a little the other night after we took a load over and my daughter started banging on the door, saying "It's my turn, Daddy!" I have a little 6" concert tom (Tama, I think) and a 10" 70s Ludwig that she could use as a rack and floor...just gotta figure out how to mount them low enough that she could reach them...and the smallest snare I currently own is a 13. We'll figure something out...if my wife will let me. :p

Later!
