Thanks mchair, You're right! it's not UMass line it's Indiana University DL. I'm human, screwed up!

Here's a DL battle between IU and SCSU. Worth a hear... because now they play with Madonna! Jump For Joy. the snare work by IU in the last three minutes is nothing short of awesome...

Would have been nice to see a top line D&B Corp Drumline, these guys are the best of the best from all the Universities, I played with the Charioteers, a junior corp from Alabama, not sure if they're still in existence. I do know there were some bada$$ guys on the line! The snare line was comprised of guys from the University of Alabama & Auburn University and were truly great players! Funny thing was that none of these guys were worth a pooh on a drum kit! They actually asked me stuff about playing a kit & I was the youngest guy on the line. I guess the old Grass is always Greener theory is true...I wanted to be able to play snare like they did & they wanted to play a kit like I did. LOL! Love hearing a top-shelf snare line & IU's line was the only thing worth a crap in the half time show...I'm sorry, halftime MIME! For once I'd like to see a BADA$$ Drum & Bugle Corp go out there & blow the audience out of their seats! I think if more people were aware of what these guys do they might quit putting embarrassing crap like what we saw on the tele.

Thanks for the correction, Kelly. Yah, Indiana would make more sense.

Love this Corp stuff. Reminds me of my marching days back at UConn in the mid 70's. I actually enjoy watching a great drumline more that a Neil Peart solo, but that's just my rudimental roots showing. I bought the movie Drumline just for the last 15 minutes and still haven't watched anything but the finale.

Much better than Madonna for sure!!

Yes, the top scoring corps line last year in the drum corps international championships was, believe it or not in the same stadium as the Super Bowl (Lucas Oil) was the Chicago Cavaliers.

Marching band drum lines were really not very good until the 90's when they began to adopt the "corps" styles of precision play and timing.

Here's the modern 2010 Chicago Cavaliers in a warm-up. Listen to their "drum speak".

Wow that was great! I saw Shania Twain once and she uses local drummers in her show as well, pretty cool. I have always said I wish they would show more of the college bands during the half time instead of talking about the first half of the game that everyone has already seen.

Thanks for sharing!

The Cavaliers are actually from Rosemont, Illinois. But yeah, it's actually suburb of Chicago (30 minute drive or so?).

Cavies always have great drumlines. 1995 Planets and 2000 Niagara Falls shows are one of my all time favorites! Even though I marched in a rival corps!!! :)

From Brewkowski

It's weird, because I know about her but I have never heard one of her songs. I remember reading about her a few years ago in Rolling Stone or Blender or something. I think she is from Sri Lanka or somewhere. Just one of the many no talent A#$ clowns that the record companies think we need to listen to.....

I'm obviously alone here but I quite like a bit of MIA. I didn't see the SB incident though.

Go to Youtube and check out "born free" on Letterman featuring Martin Rev from influencial 70s/80s US electro punk band Suicide - you'll probably hate it. I like it!Cool1

Skiballs,

Who did you march with? I us. I usually go to the DCI finals every year in Indy.

Great show case of rudimental drumming. Vic Firth is well represented there. HE actually showed up in person at the finals on Saturday night and gave a short speech. HE sells a lot of sticks to corps and marching bands!
