Slingerland Mute question Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I picked up this 1966 Slingerland parade drum yesterday.

I've tried to take the mute off but the knob is stuck when I get it near the end of the threads. Is this the way the parts were made (not to be removed once in place) or do I just force the knob....maybe stripping it....to undo it?

Just asking because I've never taken a Slingerland mute apart. I really would not like to strip it to get it off.

They boogered the end of the screw so the knob wouldn't come off.

I've muscled them off in the past, but the knob is brass, and I was lucky I didn't damage it.

Guess you could chase it?

Thanks, That's what I thought was going on there. I've decided not to refinish it anyway.....looks pretty cool the way it is...I'll touch up the gouges that were created by the metal leg rest that was on the drum.

......

I did chase it.....it tried to get out the front door...it was a little too fast for me but Daisy our retriever grabbed it before it got away.....
