I need help beta testing a vintage drum RSS feed search engine project Last viewed: 13 hours ago

I'm working on this gizmo that will automatically search Ebay and all the Craig's List cities for a list of particular search words about vintage drums. It basically cuts out all the work of having to create custom searches for Ebay and doing individual searches at all the Craig's List locations. It also has a second custom Google search engine that will search whatever sales and auction sites I program it for. This is going to be a free public feature on my site.

What I need help with is compiling a very succinct and comprehensive list of search terms for vintage drums, because each word or phrase takes a lot of programming, especially for all the Craig's Lists. You can check it out and play around with it at my site. The link is called Open Market. Right now it is searching for broader words and phrases like Vintage Drums, Radio King, Black Beauty, etc. There's a lot of work being done on the site right now so if you run across some goofy graphics, just ignore them. Hopefully this will cut out a lot of the time that we spend searching Ebay and Craig's List, so we can go back to what we're supposed to be doing, like practicing! :-)

George - don't forget to include all the common misspellings! Lugwig, snar drum, base drum, symbol to name just a few. How many search words will the engine accommodate? Is there a limit?

Good luck, sounds like a very worthy and utilitarian/practical endeavor. Maybe I'll sign up and toss a few in myself. Break a leg, hope it all works out.

John, that's a really good idea. I had a list at one time of strange names that people used for drum stuff; drum top (drum head), remo drum (the drum would be another brand but had a Remo head on it, Ear drum (WTF?).

The word count is limitless, but the big factor is the hours it takes to input each word. It's a boring process using several different software programs and several websites and lots of cutting and pasting of code. But I'm setting it up to search for a core list of words that will bring in 90% of what's out there automatically, and then the refined search for what it does not find will be done by putting the words in the search window on that page. For instance one of my core search words could be Super Ludwig but there might be an auction of listing out there that was written as "selling my dad's childhood instrument" and it wouldn't show up. OR i might have all of the Slingerland words I can think of and I missed one model, etc. Go play with it and you'll see what I mean.

Greetings. I trust you are doing well. It may be more work than you could possibly stand, but it would be helpful to separate cymbal searches from drum searches simply to reduce the return results and narrow one's focus.

If you use a MAC, then I highly recommend an application called iClip. It is the mother of all copy and paste programs. I know that doesn't sound exciting, but I cannot imagine working without it. It is truly the coolest app widget ever. If you have to copy a d paste much, this thing is awesome

I still have your monster tequila sunrise bass drum at the shop and also left a gift with it for your new wunderkind student. Hope to see you soon.

I'll check that out, man! The World's largest (and most useless) tequila sunrise plexiglass bass drum will actually see some use come September 29th and 30th as the sign for the Nashville Drum Show! In the meantime, see if you can rent it out to a refugee family to live in. :-)

It's THE Beta's... they live in the Tequila Sunrise Bass. Ya gotta feed 'em 'cause if you don't they get all grumpy...
