LOL! Are you seriously trying to use those examples to show off your knowledge of drumming? -stock arrangement of an old Monk tune? REALLY?

Oh, wait, now you'll want me to give you an example of my playing...right? Well, I think I'll pass. You can do a little research of your own and then get back to me if you want.

I'm going out to get a Big Mac now. :)

From royal ace

No offense taken!Since you alluded to my recently acquired Blacro... which I was motivated to buy because it had been retrofitted with a Premier die cast batter hoop... I will give you an update: The first thing I did was tune and play it as it came... not very satisfying.2.Switched the reso hoop to my extra Premier die cast... no improvement.3. Replaced Ludwig triple flange reso hoop and installed a triple flange batter hoop borrowed from a Sonor f.t. Surprise! That gave me the best response. Confirmation that Ludwig knew their business! As you know, out of curiosity, I had purchased a 70s era Acro some months ago. After head selection and tuning to my taste, I judged it to be a well made instrument and a notable value that I wouldn't be embarrassed or bummed to play on a gig. However, with 16 snare drums to choose from, I realized it would remain at the bottom of the pecking order, never to be played. I traded it for a cymbal.BTW, I preferred the tone of the 70s Acro to the Blacro. Having since purchased and mounted an after-market triple flange top hoop, I intend to unload the Blacro at the earliest opportunity, thereby ending for good and all my brief, but enlightening experience with the Acro/Blacro.A few comments vis a vis value: Quite recently, I had the luck to snag a 5.5 Sound King for $81.00.Analogy: Acro is to Escort as Sound King is to Thunderbird. Two years ago, I snagged a mint Premier 2000 for $125.Analogy: Acro=escort/Premier 2000=Jaquar

What you payed and it`s fair market value are two different things

I`ve seen the Escort do the 1/4 mi. in the blink of an eye !! Only it was beat by Forces` taurus !! Know where I`m going with this ??

14" Ft batter hoop

14" Ft resonate hoop

14" tom tom batter hoop

14" tom tom resonate hoop

All triple flange seamless Sonor Ferro-Manganeese,...is there a difference that I`m not aware of ?

All COS triple flange seamless Sonor hoops,...is there a difference I`m not aware of ?

Soap boxes are slippery, and Lug`s whole point slipped right under you !!

Jeez, and I thought this would be a nice thread. Your bickering makes me sick. Not the fact that you disagree, but the fact that you have to act like children.

I apologize Gilnar. I agree with you. Bickering is STUPID!

My intention was not to criticize other snare drums. My intention was to uplift the Acrolite for being such a great drum. But this Royal (pain in the) Ace guy lit me up with his initial rude responses and now I can't resist responding in kind! IT'S ON!!! FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!! FIGHT!!!!

Opinions are strong.

People like what they like, period.

The Acrolite is one of the greatest snares of all time for many reasons, period. Premier makes great snares too, period.

I love playing my 60's aluminum acro...it's beautiful to look at, beautiful to hear, period.

I love playing my Premier 2000, it's beautiful to look at, beautiful to hear, period!

I love playing my MIJ Bollero 10 lug snare too as well as my Black galaxy Acro and my Supra and my Rogers Dynasonic and my Yamaha brass 6.5 and my Black Beauty, Monroe badge and my Craviotto unlimited steam-bent maple and my Lugwig Standard 1969 Aluminum and my Sonor '65 European Beech piccollo and my '70's Supra...well you get the picture....they are all good in different ways for different settings. They all have a place in the sun...period flowers2

Gilnar: I'm not even in the battle, but I'll also apologize. However, you must remember this:

"Americans love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle." -- George S. Patton

Bring it on 'O' boys! I'm having a blast watching his majesty getting owned!

My two cents? Royal Ace: How do you know what an Acrolite sounds like? It sounds like you had a franken-lite... I've never owned or played a Galaxy model Acro... I'll find one eventually, and buy it. Mine run the gamut from Keystone badge to B&0's. The youngest with factory grey paint (only seen a couple of those, they look great!) I'll play with the heads and snare wires, but the hoops / hardware? Nope.

The thread was in praise of a fine drum and their price being way below the quality of the drum. The Acrolite is a very very good snare drum and I would not hesitate to use it in any pro situation. Of course there are more expensive drums, and some sound better than others according to the tuneing, heads etc, but the Acrolite is like the Shure SM57 of mics.

If you know what your doing you can always make it sound good.

I am takeing my Acrolite out on my jazz gig this Thursday. Now that I have it all cleaned and tuned up. No telling how many years if ever it has been on stage. band3
