We all thank the Purdie Shuffler for his heads up regarding the 6 1/2 x 14 NOS Slingerlands on the Ebay. I got the 6 1/2 and the Gretsch 5 by 14.The Sling is the thing. The Gretsch is good but a smaller, higher pitched sound.And has a nice crack.The bronze/copper is the best one so far. Deep tone and crack all in one.Mine was pre-drilled for 8 lugs and some strainer mount holes. Also had snare beds crimped.I just recently swapped the Gretsch for the Sling on my work kit.We will keep an eye out (for shells) for you Mr. BunnyMy bronze looks alot like "the other mans" drum.

How about those tube lugs GreenGlass?The ones I found were too short, or long, I can't remember by nearly a quarter inch. Where did you find yours?ThanksKev

I elongated the pre-drilled holes. Took a round file and filed about 1/16 on each hole heading towards the rims.I use the round files a lot. 1 is approx 3/16 and one is approx 5/16.Enlarging shell holes for tube lugs is very tedious/careful work.The lug footprint is small, as you know.SA aka GGD

I'm not going to tell you what to build bunny, but I will say that buying a pre-drilled NOS shell off of sleezeBay & screwing hardware on it is not building a drum...it is assembling a drum...sort of like painting by numbers doesn't make you an artist. Not trying to pi$$ anyone off...I'm just saying...BTW, if you need a lug layout mat, I can send you a .pdf, .eps or .ai file of mine.

Hey bunny. If you go to drummaker.com, on the left of the page is a free download for a drum mat, for spacing out the lugs. They're brilliant. My architect friend had to print it out for me coz they won't come out of a normal printer. Hope it's still available. If not I could probably get mine copied and sent over to you.
