Hi,has anyone done that before?

Marching snares and tenor drums BOTH get turned into toms all the time!!! There's nothing tricky about it. I suggest using a suspension mounting system to mount the tom to prevent extra holes.

Yep. Why not? I use a marching snare as my main snare and a snare as a third tenor tom! (Drum Image Galley: Star Set in Turquoise)

Converted a 10"X14" marching snare to a tom last year...I love it! I put it on a shortened snare stand between my 12"ers and my 16" floor.

i used a pre serial ludwig 12x15 marching clubdate snare as a floor tom for a while. i also shortened a snare stand so to not modify the drum. i left snares and all on the drum. sounded great.

Depends on what you have!!!

Modern stands are very, very easy to modify- take a very, very small metric hex key and remove the grub screw from the thing holding the leg assembly onto the main tube of the stand. Make certain NOT to misplace it. Then cut the tube down. File off the burrs. You may also want to cut down the tube that has the snare basket on it, as well. Measure twice, cut once as I say. Replace the leg assembly onto the tube, screw in the grub screw and you have a new, shorter snare stand.
