hey all,

just wondering if anybody would be so kind as to hip me to their preferences with gretsch round badge drums. i guess pre and post-brooklyn gets figured into there too.

can you tell me the differences in the sound characteristics, etc. and any other info? and does one or the other have more of a propensity for out of roundness? that sort so stuff.

much obliged!

Adam, I have a number of RB Gretsch drums mid 60's back to about 1948..I like the 3 ply shells over the 6 ply shells for R&R playing..I like the 6 ply 60's shells for Jazz type of music...I also mix the sets up by plys it seems when i rent them out to studio's they seem to like the drums mix up like that for the sound they are looking for...Mikey

3 ply are darker sounding, and were actually made by Gretsch in Brooklyn.

3 ply are some of the warmest/richest sounding recording drums anywhere..

6 ply are good for everyday usage..
