RB Gretsch 20/12/14/14 Great deal, maybe Last viewed: 22 minutes ago

Maxwell's Blue Sparklers do sound great on the sample file.

I paid $5,010 two years ago for a 3 ply, matching 4 piece Black Nitron Progressive set , with top notch, well-seated calf on all drums, top & bottom.

As I already had a 5.5 black nitron 6 ply snare that I much preferred, I sold the 4" snare drum, which I knew I would never play, for $2,000.

I consider the 3 drums remaining to have been a bargain at $3,010.

Thanks Ron for your input!

You sold the snare for $2000!?

B. Nitron Progressive jazz set is really cool!

Cymbals are Old A/Old K combo?

Yoshi, You're correct on the cymbals, except the 18" crash in the middle.. a Bhosphorus from which the previous owner had removed the logo.

$2,000 for the snare! That's the mystique of 3 ply RB 4x14 in superb condition.

As to $3,010 for the bass & toms, keep in mind the rarity of a 3 ply 14x14 with Gladstone mount legs and $400 to $500 worth of calf heads.

On top of all that there's the sentimental value.... this set is identical to a set that was stolen from me in 1964.

Who owned and played those blue sparkle Gretsch drums? For that kind of money, I would expect them to be from Art Blakey's basement or some such place. For $3500, one can buy two or three equally as nice same year and size drum sets with other American drum makers' logos. The Gretschies out there can wet themselves over this nice--not speciial--drum set that occupies some very high priced retail store lease space. I can't see these drums being worth more than $1500. OK...take in to account the ridiculously high rent that Steve has to pay, $1800.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Probably, I also think he might get it around NY.$500-700 15-20 years ago!? Great deal! After inflation calculation, the price equals to $1,379-1,923 in 2011, though.

........................................................................................................

20 + years ago ,I grabbed a 18,12,14 and 5 1/2 by 14 G. kit in STARLITE SPARKLE for $700!

I flipped it for $1,700 a couple years later, the guy that bought it from me flipped it for $5,500 to a guy in Italy, and I'll bet $12,000-15,000 would be what it would take to get it from him now!..........

............................................................................................................

Grabbed a 18" G. Red Sparkle RB BD around the same time for $75!

BUT it had a Luddy double tom mount BLASTED into it.

I happened to have the 12 and 14 already to complete.......think I flipped them all for $800.....

It's in NY now somewhere.

I've thought it is Masterworks. 18" Bosphorus is cool. 3 ply 14x14 with Gladstone mount legs and calf heads are stunning! Yeah, nice kit!

Thank you for your thoughts! If they are Art Blakey's set or from such basement, it is so. Yeah, I agree we can get by 2-3 good 60's sets by that amount. The retail store rental lease surely affects the price.

18/12/14/5.5 was $700 you grabbed? Then, $1700⇒ $5,500 ⇒12,000-15,000? It is possible. Though it depends on the condition and color, 18/12/14 set is around/over 10K at present.

In addition, Red sparkle RB 18/12/14 set is in NY now? Why didn't you flip them to me for $800!! Hehehe, I'll watch out them in the city.

Thanks guys for your thoughts!!

Much appreciated!!

The 18" kit I first mentioned was STARLITE SPARKLE!

One of the rarest finishes out there!

Kit had no extra holes........I recall the 12" being 3 ply, the rest 6.........

When the guy sent the M.O. for $800,he forgot to tear the little piece off for his records..

All I would have had to do was say "What M.O.? I never got it" and he would have been SOL!

He got his drums though......I'll bet he never did that mistake again!

I don't see any value in that price tag of 35 hundo. That is two bad nights at the casino's poker tables PLUS a killer vintage kit with all the trimmings where I come from!

have a wonderful evening
