I got the regular Delmar blue sparkle that you can get at Precision Drum or anywhere else-- to do a kick and a couple toms whose wrap is ruined. I can't tell the difference between that and my original early 70's blue sparkle tom. I think the blue sparkle and the red sparkle were least prone to fading or color change over the years. Anyone else notice this?
Either way, any of the sparkle finishes I think are the closest to what was originally produced. Most of the pearls and swirls and such you can buy now just don't look correct to my eyes.
Use 3M Fastbond to apply. I use an old boom cymbal stand at a 90-degree angle boom to hold the drum as I apply the wrap. Mark with a pencil where you want your ends to go and smooth out the wrap with a good towel as you go around the circumference of the shell. Go slowly and deliberately, don't think about how it will look when you are done. After the adhesive is cured, I use an Xacto knife to carfully trim around the bearing edges, then take a fine file to blend the edge of the wrap into the edge of the drum. If you know about all this already, apologies for being obvious.
