Winter Drum Project Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

Ok Guy's,

I'm open for ideas on re-wrapping a 18x18 floor tom

I've read the 'how too' here but i'm looking for extra tip's/advice.

Gonna use or find the closest thing to early 70's ludwig blue sparkle to match a big beat set purchased from VDF member 'Purdie shuffle'

For a one up two down style.

Thanx for you advice,

Gregg

I got the regular Delmar blue sparkle that you can get at Precision Drum or anywhere else-- to do a kick and a couple toms whose wrap is ruined. I can't tell the difference between that and my original early 70's blue sparkle tom. I think the blue sparkle and the red sparkle were least prone to fading or color change over the years. Anyone else notice this?

Either way, any of the sparkle finishes I think are the closest to what was originally produced. Most of the pearls and swirls and such you can buy now just don't look correct to my eyes.

Use 3M Fastbond to apply. I use an old boom cymbal stand at a 90-degree angle boom to hold the drum as I apply the wrap. Mark with a pencil where you want your ends to go and smooth out the wrap with a good towel as you go around the circumference of the shell. Go slowly and deliberately, don't think about how it will look when you are done. After the adhesive is cured, I use an Xacto knife to carfully trim around the bearing edges, then take a fine file to blend the edge of the wrap into the edge of the drum. If you know about all this already, apologies for being obvious.

Hmmmm. I started a Winter Project last November........I'm almost done. It's a 6-piece Gretsch Walnut kit. Talk about dragging your feet.

Good luck with your re-wrap and I look forward to your pics. Blue sparkle is way cool. One up, two down is the bomb.
