Imperial Star Snare, a few questions.

Loading...

Hi

I bought this drum a few weeks ago. Nice and heavy.

Still trying to find the right "tunage" for it.

The die-cast hoops that came with it are surprisingly "spongy", I mean, they were the reason I decided to buy it.

The snare mechanism is working fine after some lubing and adjusting, but, say in the future, would it be possible to replace it for something else? (the die-cast

bolt thread holding it to the shell broke on one of them)

Thanks!

The drum is like this one:

That is actually a King Beat. The bolt is replaceable.

Great hidden beauty. I've got one just like it and love it..

King Beat, eh?

It is not the bolt that broke but the thread part into which it goes.

There are 3 bolts holding snare mechanism on each side. The missing bolt does not seem to be making any difference at the moment. But if I were to try to change the whole set up, would I need to drill holes in the shell to accommodate the new of a different design?

Also , the "die-cast" hoops that behave like stamped tin? :(

I have both the 5 and 6.5 and love`em both. Mikey, would you happen to have an extra snare lug for the 6.5?

I swear the 6.5 is the best rock snare ever. It smokes my Coliseum.

I have a King Beat snare like the one in the photo. That is a "Super Sensitive" style strainer and it is excellent. I would not recommend replacing it. I also have a regular Imperialstar with the standard strainer which is good, but the King Beat snare mechanism is superior.

I agree with not changing the snare mech out. I own 5 of these 4 five inchers and one 6x14. Love them all. Actually wanted to buy these due to thier sensitive type strainers. They can be a bit finnicky but once figured out, these rock.

Great drums... I have a 6.5 with the simple strainer and triple flanged hoops. Sounds every bit as good as a Supra, for hundreds less. In fact I sold my Supra cause this $80.00 drum sounded just as good in the studio. Shhhh....everybody will want one.

Hell, everybody does want one, but in good condition, they run 300 up. A 6.5 is going to set you back 375 in clean, complete condition, no less than a good clean Supra, but man, they have so much more range. Maybe Santa will bring me one for Christmas....but I doubt it. I'll just have to live with my Star "Made In Japan" round blue badge no name...'70 model # 8256 COS standard ( http://www.tamadrum.co.jp/anniversary/expansion.php?cat_id=8&now=13 ). With a Fyberskin, it sounds wonderful, no ringing, no ugly, uncontrollable ghosting, just a sweet, clean sounding snare! And no strainer headaches.
