Hold Your Head High

Just wondering: Are any of the older folks on this forum having some flashbacks watching TV?

I am not endorsing anything or anyone but about every half hour or so while sitting behind my PC I can hear songs start and stop, songs such as "I can see clearly now" or "Hold your Head high" or other "vintage songs".There is nothing wrong with my tv, (Think Poltergeist), so something is going on with the music. Maybe the stars are lining up just right or maybe the "Age of Aquarius" is coming around again? I don't know.

More likely its those pesky "Baby Boomers" steering the music notes to line up again for some musical memories Hummm!

NO, that cannot be the answer either because we older fellows would be called insane, but wait, as much as I can remember of the 60s & 70s (about half) there were a lot of people calling us insane.

So whats the answer? Must be the advertisers trying to entice us to buy things we don't need.

Or we may be REALLY INSANE. Or the music has finally gone full circle. I love it, BOOMERS ROCK!

Sorry about the rant: Tom

What's terrible is that they're using cool music to sell thing for old people; are they trying to say that we're old?

Something annoying about the way the classic hit songs are used for commercials. The songs are truncated so badly that the real essence of the songs are lost. Sometimes, the opening line or the hook is immediately followed by the ending line.

Example:

"Oh say can you see.

And, the home of the brave".

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

We ARE old ,but like our vintage drums most are still playing. The music of today is ok and I like playing to it but now its all starting to sound, - well for a lack of another word Old! Maybe I,AM just to old. Dam I hate that word.

I still like a tight band playing that good old rock & roll. I didn,t wear stacks but I still have all the reversible vests and Bell Bottom pants. Wearing the same clothes seemed normal back in the day but I came to hate them along with Disco and Hey Jude for the last song of the night.

I have a pair of stacked heels for my Gene Simmons costume. No goldfish!!! Yes, I was temporarily Gene in a tribute band, even though I am all of 5'9" and lack the tongue. But I did learn how to spit fire (from a circus fire-breather) and I even trained my replacement to do that. I was Gene for a few shows while my friends were trying to find a replacement. I didn't talk onstage, as my accent would have been the last nail in the coffin!!! They had dates, needed a quick replacement, and thank G'd for them I knew most of the material on bass!!!! I cut my teeth on bass playing KISS tunes. But I ruined a perfectly mint Gibson Ripper over an 8 show run (between the blood spitting, my costume rashing the back, and the fluid I used to breather fire with).

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Haven't noticed. I either mute the sound when the annoying noise comes on, or I FF through the garbage via recorded stuff. Getting harder and harder to even watch educational TV. I'm talking to you, History and Science Channel. An hour show = 35 mins of show and 25 mins of BS. Don't even get me started on all the animated crap crawling on the bottom of what you might be watching.

Sorry.

Now that's a good subject to start up a whole 'nother thread!

One of my 'latest' pet peeves: (Not to go off-topic) but, the ones that really get me by the ya-ya's are all the gotdam drug company commercials. 'Ask your doctor for, blah, blah, blah' always followed by a long list of nasty side-effects that would scare the crap out of Superman. Why do they bombard us with that crap? I wouldn't take any of it on a dare! Sorry, rant over...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Don't have television in the house. I keep all my media (movies, music, other video and such) on hard drives and I access it in whatever room I happen to be in. Have not had proper TV for many many years. Just garbage on there.
