Slingerlands Anyone? WOW

From leedybdp

Your friend may have better luck selling these drums to hobbyists who don't frequent any of the various drum forums. I think that you can tell by most of the posts here that his eBay listing has struck raw nerves of several collectors and hobbyists here who take offense to his belittling and dismissal of people who are really similar to himself.

Point well taken.

This is from the douche selling the Slingerland gear.

In reference to the negative e-mails & comments I am receiving. First, to anyone who buys something they do can with it what they please. If you could sell it for twice what you paid for it the next day, great. I have purchased of some of these and are selling at a profit. No one sets out to lose money. I have flipped items as anyone else. I love working on drums, a labor of love, and have sold things at a loss as well.

My point was "dealers", perhaps a poor characterization, who have contacted me to offer a fraction of what I perceive as the value. Negotiation is fine, but I am sure if an absurdly low ball offer was made to the likes those who criticize me, they too wouldn't be happy either. I am no expert, like the elite that criticize, but no novice either. Just a long time drum enthusiast who needs to sell a few kits.

Hi Steve, I don not know you in anyway, I did comment on this post but it was not a slam at you, but at the way and tone the copy was written.

I sale on ebay frequently and have been in the vintage drum game a long time. The copy in the ebay auction came off more than likely not as you intended, What struck a raw nerve with me was, in your ebay auction you have complete control over it,

instead of the copy you wrote why didn't you simply place the prices you where looking for, or mark the auction as best offer, and set the offer option with the lowest acceptable price you were willing to accept for your drums? Good luck in your sales you have some awesome drums.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

My criticism was much in the same vein as the previous posters. The people most likely to consider buying your drums are dealers and folks like many of us hobbyist/collectors here on the forum. Your eBay ad includes a lot of attitude that tells of your disdain for dealers who are in business to make a profit, and dismissal of people like yourself who look for bargains to add to their collections. We are proud to be the bottom feeders that we are. People who should be the most likely to buy a drum set from this ad are probably less experienced at buying used or vintage drums. They are easily intimidated by the grouping of so many drum sets in one ad. I wish you success in selling off the drums that you are trying to sell. But, I urge you to relist each of the drum sets individually without the attitude, and with a reserve price and buy it now price.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Glad you posted that and cleared up some grey areas Steve.

I wish I could attend and throw my hat in the arena.

Good luck with your sale!

To address several of the issues: Yes, I am using the e-bay ad as a medium to convey the availability of these instruments to those who might make the yearly trip to Jack's vintage show tomorrow. I guess we all do what we have to do. In attempting to raise some cash, I don't wish to dive into a potential loss by having to rent a truck and show space at $1 a sq ft on the hopes of making a sale there. It also was a chance to offer the kits to those would who live locally or interested enough to travel to view & possibly make a deal. I have them listed on Craig's list & other outlets. I prefer not to ship due the hassle & high cost to the buyer.

I believe many mistook the intent or tone of my ad, for that I am sorry. I guess in my listing I was demonstrating my frustration with "dealers" or individuals who had generously offered to "take off my hands" some of these drums, as if I couldn't give them away. This was from ads & outlets other than e-bay prior to this listing and some on (e-bay) as well. By the definition I am a "bottom feeder" too. We all buy to sell to trade to buy to sell, I get it. I am not saying I am above that, nor do I chastise those who do.

I tried to state in the ad that I was offereing individual kits for sale, perhaps that was lost in the larger picture.

I had the high end kits appraised for value by a nationally known Slingerland historian and author. I needed a benchmark, to put along with the values of the roller coaster that is e-bay, that seems to be currently used to determine values. At one point in time, for example, a know dealer had offered me 1/4 of a kits value. Hence my approach, perhaps misguided or jaded.

My appeal to serious players or collectors was genuine. There are those who may have been looking for a good piece in excellent condition or something one off or not seen every day. I said that hastily as I had been contacted by many individuals that had no more intention on buying than I had on offering them for free as a tax deduction. It wasn't to imply that the average player or hobbyist, such as myself, couldn't enjoy or appreciate anything that was offered here.

If anyone still feels "offended" by the ad after reading this, by all means display your displeasure & protest by not buying a single thing & telling your friends not to as well. For the relief of the petulant individuals, take heart, my pompous, stilted & condescending ad will be down shortly.

Hi Steve! Welcome to the forum! Yes, everyone here comes with his/her own "attitude", but we're all here for the same thing... to help keep vintage drums alive, well, appreciated, and to try to educate "younger" generations on how great these drums are!

I sure miss that BR 80N Red Sparkle kit!

Steve, that was my perception of your Ad. I seriously do understand your frustration with some buyers. I offered a super rare 1936 Radio king tom last year it didn't sale, The Insane offers I received where insulting to me. so I still own it and probably will till I'm Dust in the wind. Steve once again I do understand your frustration with some buyers and this economy! good luck on the sale!

Here is a copy of a further explanation I just posted. Hope it sheds more light on the subject.

Thanks, Steve.
