8 Lug Rogers Luxor? Last viewed: 9 seconds ago

Loading...

Hi All-

Checking on a drum I have the chance to acquire. Has a Luxor Cleveland paper tag on the inside of the shell, with a 4 digit serial number beginning with 5 (1963-64?). Checked out VDG & all I saw were 6 lug drums listed. This thing needs some love, couple lug casings missing as well as the throw, & has an extra hole where some idiot decided to put a 50 cent strainer on it, but in very good overall condition.

Anyone ever heard of an 8 lug Luxor?...if so, any idea to the value? I can get this thing for next to nothing, but don't want to waste my time on something billybob fabricated in shop class.

Thanks in advance!

Dan

If there are concentrate holes around the shell, could be a factory shell drilled for Powertone instead of Luxor.

Thanks, should've got pics last night when the guy was here, buy the batteries were dead for my camera. He's wanting a better snare for his little in-house studio but has no cash. I on the other hand have 60+ snares and no cash...don't believe in screwing someone over just because they don't know what they've got. Want to give this guy a fair trade value for something he can use in his Studio. Will post some pics if/when I can.

BUT...theoretically, does this, or rather did this snare exist? Other than the throw-off everything looks intact & correct. I thought it was a Powertone at first also, but it has a Luxor tag...WTF!

Thanks for the info!

Crossed out Luxor with Powertone written in? Not uncommon.

Different lug count standard shown catalog Rogers drums were common in this era to have a different interior tag. Not done to mess with us all these years later just to fill an order. Does cause some confusion though. Typed model names on interior labels or crossed out stock label model names happened in the Covington era often.

At the end of the day an 8 lug drum should pull more money than a 6 lug drum. BUT also depends on finish color and modifications like extra holes for price. Depending on who is buying that week you are selling is the price.

For example I spoke to the original owner of this red 4pc set I found a while back. He remembered very well that it was given to him a few pieces at a time for Christmas 1960, 1961 and finished with the floor tom in 1962. The bass and tom are early Tower model regular tag drums which is earlier than most think about the Tower line "happening." The snare pictured below has the typed tag HOLIDAY glued over the script nails, I like it when they did that on that panel, bent into the interior. It is a 6 lug drum.

In conclusion, as the voice sample that Howard Stern used to use said by OJ Simp..."It happens." All bad jokes aside hope this helps, Gary

No cross out...could it have been a special order? I don't know, it's a strange beast. Did Rogers ever offer an 8 lug Luxor? The tag is intact, doesn't look like a moved tag...very clean, no discoloration or tears in the paper. Is it a special order or some kind of hoax?

No special order for a down grade lesser model drum name. Could of just been a "wrong" tag grabbed from the box of tags or an employee Monday morning before coffee made drum. No hoax -Rogers Covington goodness snare.

Are there any initials on the paper tag corner from the assembler that finished it?

The Model names on the paper tags were given to the drums shown with the given hardware in the catalogs. Like the top bass mounts tell us which catalog set name it can be called. Variations happened all the time.

Thanks guys! Will be better prepared when I see and...yes acquire this lil' darlin. I'll put this guy into a nice snare for his studio & I'll have yet another beautiful old snare to obsess over. Really nice gold sparkle wrap, just hate that some idiot drilled an extra hole to put a Walmart throw on it...but I can fix it!...I have the technology!...I can make it Faster, Smarter, Stronger!...and dog gone it...people are going to like it, or my name's not fungus amungus...ugh, well my name's not fungus amungus, but you guys better like it or I'm gonna spread spores all over your lawns!...and then..."huh, what honey?...time for my meds?...oh boy-oh boy-oh boy!"...gotta go guys, supper time.Yes Sir
