Slingerland Gene Krupa COB 6.5" badge. Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi folks,

I need the advice from the specialists again.

Please take a close look at the pictures. I have the chance to pick up this drum for a decent price but the way the badge is lifting from the shell seems odd to me. The serial number is: 508038. The seller claims the drum is 1970's but the info available on Vintage Drum Guide places this serial somewhere mid eighties ?

Place tell me I'm seeing ghosts.

I'd love to get this drum but for the price I would pay, I want to make sure it's 100% genuine.

Thanks

I reckon the serial number is marginal, late 70's early 80's but will love to read what the real experts will come up with. The badge may have been "snagged" on something (by the look of it a cleaning cloth).

It looks good enough to eat, so at a fair price you would have to buy it..

Cheers

The drum looks legit to me.

The serial places it at about 1981, as you thought.

There looks to be a dent behind the second lug to the left of the strainer...

I have one from the 70's and the badge is exactly like yours, it is a little bent and I can spin it 360 degrees

Hi Folks,

I went to pick up the Slingerland yesterday.

Overall in nice condition but Kevin was right, the second lug left from the strainer has a scratch. Probably dropped and caused a slight dent in the shell.

Well spotted Kevin !!!

I might have it repaired but for now I'll leave it as it is..

The badge was pretty loose indeed, probably "snagged" on something.

Still visible but in all an easy fix with some strong double-sided 3M tape.

Besides that, no problems. (few superficial scratches)

The beauty lies in the sound I guess and what an amazing snare this is !

Brushes, soft, rim-shots, hard hitting, etc... This thing shines in every aspect and could eventually be used in every possible setting I guess,...

Absolutely spectacular,...

Thanks for the advice guys, couldn't be more satisfied.

Anybody interested in my Luddies,...? Hurting

From Supraphonic.D

I'll keep them for sure, just kidding Dennis,...

Nevertheless,... not sure about prices in the US but over here in Europe this COB Slingy sells for 150 Euro less than a (non COB) Ludwig Supra 6.5".

I'm convinced that the vast majority of unprejudiced players and listeners would pick this Slingerland as more versatile and as the better sounding drum!

I'm quite sure this discussion came up already a couple of times on the forum,...

Supra's are killer snares but overpriced I guess !

well the supra is THE Bonham-snare, what celebrity used a slingy COB??

I think that has a lot to do with it... ;)
