Just picked up this Gretsch snare and a couple of old Slingerlands. I'm pretty sure it's a brass shell drum, weighs a ton. Would be grateful for any info!

Looks like gross gold spray paint covering a chrome snare with pitting.
No paint on it. it's brass inside and out. I've done some research and this is the closest I've found

Looks just like the snare in the center, unless that is a wrap...

Yepper...........
Maybe somebody used steel-wool to clean the drum at some point, but that is an original drum. I've only seen one other bare brass round-badge like yours. The weight is a dead give-away that it's a brass drum. Must sound awesome.

Man i like your drum big time . she look's cool and would look even better with a little work on my end then stashed in my basment for ever . one thing for sure , like all rb snare drums they will sound great no matter what they look like . if you ever want to get rid of it , how about a pack of cheap smokes and a box of beer and i will help you drink lol . hold on to that drum it's all about the sound .

I don't think anybody stripped this drum, I don't see signs of anybody disassembling it. It looks like untouched brass inside and out. If anybody stripped this drum of chrome they did an incredible job. The drum sounds beautifully!
