Here is the other snare that came it.

This one is an MIT, late 80s into the 90s...not one of my faves, but some guys have good luck with this particular shell, teversonsr is one of those guys. Now te Acrolite, the Keystone model sounds a little different from the B/O, which also sounds different from the 80s version that is powder coated, and that sounds different from the "Blackrolite" that is the most current version of the Acrolite. The 2 latter drums sound noting like the first 3 version. The earliest version had an "orange peel" alloy shell. Those babies sell for big bucks, and if it is a 10 lug version...wooohooo! those are the top dog, bringing 700++! (orange peel/10 lugs) Your Acrolite is the second version, the smooth alloy shell w/Keystone badge. Too bad there is rust, but it would still bring about 100-125 all cleaned up and polished.

It's a keeper for sure! I need a couple of bowties to put mine back together. I "built" a snare last year from a rescue shell, an old 5 ply w/rings and in order to get my drums in the public eye and ear, traded it to a guy for a TAMA piccolo and then sold it for $50 without touching it. Last night I was just cruising the List and found my snare listed by this guy for trade. He had been waiting for me to find the ad, my cell is not operable at the moment so he couldn't call me and let me know he was looking to trade it back.

This is actually one great snare, right up there with any other wood snare you can put up against it. This guy was looking for a cheap woodie. He came by my house one day just to humor me as I had been on him for three days. When he sat down, he simply went slack jawed as he started playing. That was now his snare. Now I need to get the Acro back in playable condition so I can grab this one back. It is a great drum!

(Sorry for the sizes)

Good call on the Acrolite.. I saw the dimple on the outside. The rest of it honestly couldn't see anything what some of the guesses were of. Totally an inkblot test, other than the Acro!

Yes this acro is not perfect but I think it will clean up nice. I have not had one for several years and cant wait to get it in with my main set. All that other stuff will become useful someday to someone.

Any advice for removing the rust? I know steel wool is out. I have some of that whink stain remover but it seems to turn things black.

Thank you!

I use Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound and lots of elbow grease. I carefully scrape all rust off with a small blade of some sort, usually a 5 way paint tool.

I am about to begin a restoration on a Star kit, so I could use the lugs if you don't think you will use them. It is going to be a Jazzer, if the guy will get off his butt and get over here to give me the colors or veneer he wants...20-12-14 thick shells.

the cymbal is a scimtar which was one of Zildjian's earlier beginner series. The are made from sheet bronze as opposed to cast bronze used on the pro cymbals. Not necessarily a bad cymbal.

Ya I didnt think it was anything to good but really everything besides the acrolite snare was just a bonus. I did not pay much for all of the stuff. I take the stuff that I dont want and eventually build a nice kit with cymbals and harware to sell. The money made from these kits is used to keep the drum hunt alive, waiting for the big score! Just wish I would have held on to the Stewarts I just sold. Oh well life goes on. Cant keep everything, can we?

fun score, lots of projects in there.

The Scimitar Bronze series was decent, I had a great 16" crash when I was a kid.
