Vintage Gretsch and Premier Marching Snares and Toms Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Loading...

I got these at a garage sale about a year ago just because they looked so cool together. Pretty safe to assume we're talking rewrap here, right? I don't know if you can tell from the picture but the Premiers are marching snares and the Gretsches are marching toms. Sorry if I sound ignorant but I don't know too much about vintage drums and these are hard to find information on on the web. Anybody with any info. on these it would be greatly appreciated. I put up another thread with what I thought were vintage Premier toms and was set straight (and educated), so thanks to anybody who is willing to share their knowledge with me.

These are vintage drums, but yes, they're rewraps.

Well, they are definitely re-wraps. I think the wrap is bloody cool, btw.

Values? I dunno. I know that the Premiers have value in the die-cast hoops. The Premiers look to be from the '70s.

Don't know much about Gretsch drums, except I just built me the sweetest snare from an NOS '80s Gretsch snare shell. If the Gretsch purtists saw what I did to her, they would string me up!!!! But it pleases ME!!!!

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Your Premiers are from the late 1970s-to mid 80's.Your Gretsch drums are "Round Badge" drums they could be from the 1960's back..Better photos of the inside of the shells and badge would help...If the inside of the shells are painted silver they are from the 60's,if the inside is clear non=painted from the 50's..All drums have been re-coverd...Mikey

Thanks, Mikey-here's some more pics (the insides are both exactly the same-silver with a muffler). The hardware all looks very good, the drums are 15". I'll respond to the PM's today.

I wanna know where the beach/ocean is in the background. I like the wrap. Too bad they aren't original though.

I was just told by a friend that these are snare drums because they have snare bevels, could someone have converted a 15" snare into a tom or is he wrong?

Your friend is right - you can see the holes for the throwoff and butt in the interior picture. Too bad those parts are gone, since they are most of the value of an old Gretsch snare (the throw and butt used to be *very* expensive but seem to have come down a bit since Gretsch is now making replacements that can be bolted on without drilling and look pretty similar to the original - plus they work better).

The Gretsch drums were snare drums i can see the three holes were the strainer use to be..Looks like the silver paint has been re-painted..I would say your drums are 60's...Mikey

I own these drums now, the Gretsch "toms" are 12X15 Tournament Parade snare drums from late 50's-early 60's with silver sealer and no paper tags. All are drilled correctly with no extra holes, missing the Microsensitive strainer and single screw butt end, all other hardware is present and correct, although a little beat up. The wrap is gone, it hurts my eyes.

The Premier snares?, I'm still trying to figure them out.
