Value of Supraphonic COB vs Supraphonic Ludaloy Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Loading...

I have both a COB pre-serial number Suprphonic and an early Ludaloy supra (Serial number indicates 1965 vintage). To raise money for another project, one of them may get booted. Pricing seems all over the place. I can't believe that the COB would fetch nearly a grand, but I've seen some offered and sold in this range. Neither drum is perfect. In fact the condition of each is very similar. A few scratches. There's almost no pitting on the non-COB drum. Would appreciate some advice on the value of each - and any thoughts on why I might wish to keep one over the other.

Thanks

jim

you nailed it when you said they are all over the board. this is especially true for the ludalloy models.

the cob models seem to be pretty steady. if they are real nice, anywhere from 650-1000.

ludalloys have traditionally gone for a couple hundred bucks or so. but in the last 60 months, ive seen some pitless ludalloys sell in the 500 range. many still sell for 200 or so however. pre serials usually bring a little more. red felt models usually bring a little more. many of the ones from the era i just mentioned usually have cob hoops which add a premium. a nice pair of cob hoops are usually 100 bucks these days.

a real good indicator is to view the completed auctions on ebay to get an idea. the market is very strange right now though in my opinion...the prices that i mentioned were also for the 5 inch versions..

I never thought about the hoops. I'll have to test them.

Thanks.

Jim, if one has to go, I would keep the pre serial COB super. Sell the Ludaloy supra. They are more common.

I also have both, the brass sounds better IMHO.

I just sold a 'pittless' 1965 Supraphonic on Ebay. It went for $410.This is average price IMO for a near perfect one.

From auto.pilot

Now that's very encouraging. Thanksjim

Not meaning to burst a bubble on ya but The value of Supraphonics fluxuate so much you never know what they are gonna go for till the end of auction. One day you my see a 1960s Ludalloy Supraphonic in pittless condition go for as high as $600 and by the same token go as low as $99 (Ive experienced both senerios)

Good to know about the value of the '65 Supra, but the one I just got with a Super Classic set sounds so good, it won't be sold any time in the near future.

BTW I think proper terminology is Super 400 for the COB version and Supraphonic 400 for the Ludalloy version.
