1979 Ludwig Black Cortex Kit Last viewed: 11 seconds ago

I've got a few questions regarding what I believe to be a 1979 Ludwig black cortex kit that I'm hoping some of you Ludwig gurus might be able to help me out with:

1. The interior shells appear to be painted a black granitone. Was this common on all the Ludwig drums from this time period or only the lower end models?

2. What ply were the shells featured on the Ludwig drums from 1979?

3. The serial numbers on the B/O badges are in the 1,956,XXX range. Would that be 1979?

4. The kit is in a 12/13/16/22 configuration with a 5x14 snare. Would this be considered the "Big Beat Kit"?

5. Any idea what a fair market price for a kit like this in sound condition, both functionally and cosmetically, might be including the original hi-hat stand, hi-hat cymbals and a couple of lower end cymbals?

THANKS in advance for your time and your help!

Pics would help, granitone ints are more gray with black specking to my eye.Are the shells straight,or re rings?granitone would indicate 3 ply with rings and could be maple poplar maple or maple poplar mahogany.Although lugwig went to a 6 ply maple poplar straight shell around 1976,I bought a new kit in 1978 that had 3 ply mixed clear int and granitone shells.Matching snare or metal?Double sided or concert toms?

I haven't had the opportunity to see the kit in person. However, it's my understanding that the shells are "straight". The snare's metal (8-lug) while the toms are 2-sided.

It looks like a black vistalite kit. That would explain the black interior shells.

If it is solid black granitone, they've been painted inside. If it is smooth black inside, they could be black Vistalite. If it is grey granitone, and they have re-rings, then they could be a Big Beat set from the 70s. If it is granitone and no re-rings, they could be early Ludwig Rockers, or low end model Ludwigs. Value will vary depending on what model and condition and originality.

THANKS for the feedback to date!

Pounder: I've contacted the current owner of the kit in an attempt to get the answer regarding the make-up of the shell. I had to leave a voice-mail message since there was no answer. I'll provide an update as soon as I get one. THANKS!

I talked to the current owner and also received a pic (too large to post here). They appear to be Vistalites.

Any idea what these go for these days? I'm assuming it's a 22/12/13/16 from the looks of the pics.

I really dont know. If they were transparent they would go for a lot more $$. I have seen a few black vistalites online and the values are all over the place. I have a 24/14/18 that i would like to sell but i have no idea what to ask.
